Christopher Nolan's Inception (Thread II)

So Nolan's last two films are two of my all time favourites!

He said it was brilliant because it didn't only rely on 3D. Big difference.

He says in the interview that it's an interesting format, and with the right story, 3D can be useful.

He's become a lot more...diplomatic, in expressing his views about 3D. If I remember correctly, his very first comments a few months ago outright panned the format on its brightness (or lack thereof), pitiful resolution (compared to film) and how putting on glasses can be distracting to the viewer taking them out of the experience. Since then, every successive time someone has asked him about 3D, he has politely dismissed it indirectly. He most probably doesn't want to step on something his studio (and everyone else as well) has invested so heavily into, so he dialed his criticism of 3D down, but you also have to remember that this is the only director in all of Hollywood who physically cuts negatives. This, along with his immense fondness for practical in-camera special effects and all that he has been saying in interviews over the years unmistakably proves that Nolan is a staunch cinema old-school traditionalist.

So no, it is not unreasonable to assume he hates 3D...well, its current iteration at least.

Well, I watched the 2nd copy of Inception I recieved and it was fine so the first copy must have been faulty, at least I now know its not my player.

Next time I watch Inception, if that sound problem happens again I think I might rebuy it.

Back to the movie, I change my mind about the ending everytime I watch it, now i'm convinced he's still in the dream because what kick could Cobb and Saito have used to get out of Limbo? I saw Saito reaching for the gun but wouldnt shooting themselves just put them further into Limbo?

I think it was because at that point the sedation was wearing off. That's how the others were able to wake up from the first level. After they swam out of the van I don't think they had to kill each other on that level, they just woke up on the plane. Since they were awake on the plane, the sedation wore off, so Cobb and Saito were able to wake up once they killed each other.

That is a great interview with Nolan at Deadline. I like hearing him talk about avoiding a rehash with the next Batman movie. One of the big letdowns with Spider-Man 2 and 3 is that they featured the same damsel-in-distress climax as the first movie. Considering how hyped up the third movie was, this aspect of it felt like some kind of cruel joke on the audience. It was completely tacked on in a laughable manner. Hopefully Nolan can kick the crap out of the superhero trilogy curse.

damn..cant wait to know what project he will do after the the last batman movie. i hope he returns to smaller productions. a movie in the way he did memento or the prestige would really be awesome..

Where are these movies that rely on being 3D and nothing else?

I guess I worded that wrong. I meant studios that strictly rely the fact they have 3D as a selling point. The selling point for Avatar was more 3D, it was also the world, the aliens, and (despite what people think) the actual story.

Watched it for the first time the other night, and I have to say I was highly disappointed. A good moie, but nowhere near as great as it was made out to be

I really liked Avatar and I really liked Inception, what do you call me? a taco inside of a taco?

I don't know why anyone would be mad about Nolan saying that he enjoyed Avatar?

Maybe I'm just confused because I don't look at Nolan as the be all end all when it comes to directors.

^ But some fanboys do. If he says he's going to do his next film after Batman in 3D, many people on the hype will start falling in love 3D.

Exactly.

Or they'll just call him a sellout. Which in a way is what I would love to see happen. Just shows that no director is safe from the fickle fanboy,

Meh, he's a Michael Bay fan and people haven't called him a sellout for admitting that one. Nolan is untouchable as long as he doesn't eff up Batman 3. If he screws it up, he will be thrown under the bus like Raimi.

I'll hate 3D (and the covert ticket price rise) no matter which director uses it.

Nolan is definately not safe. Hell, some fanboys are already talking about how Inception isn't really that good and doesn't live up to the TDK. Just wait, his time is coming. Nobody can stay on top of fanboy land forever.

I like Nolan. I like that he's not some uptight, pretentious director. He's a guy who likes Radiohead, Michael Bay, Avatar, and is even interested in making an Inception video game.

If TDKRises fails, it will be a dark days on these boards.

Christ. Like I said before, 2012 will be a dangerous year on these boards. The entire year and possibly the rest of the duration of the board.

If it's great, we'll hear overzelous and hyperbolic, foaming at the mouth craze. If it isn't and "didn't live up to TDK (which is stupid to go in thinking that) then chaos.

Then possible wars with Marvel and DC fans. We have Avengers and Spider-Man coming out that year. Superman at the end.

You all know people iwll be having wars in comparisons with all these films. Who did it better.

*pulls out shotgun* I'll be ready.
