Classic Rock appreciation thread

Your standards are too high. Half the stuff people are talking about wouldn't count as classic rock if we get too specific. We're basically going by "stuff that might get played on classic rock radio".

Also, didn't Rolling Stone name them as best rock band at one point?

GArhhhhhh!!!! Rolling stone is Teh suxx0rz:mad::down I'd trust music reviews from the Local shopping news more than them.

argh!!!!! I keel them sooooo much!!!!

first off- you named nirvana- not other bands- and COME on- myself excluded (because im that cool) how many people owned effin' BLEACH when it first came out?

gimme a break- it wasnt till Nevermind that grunge became a "thing" on the national front.

We're talking radio terms, anyhow- how many times have YOU heard pop radio playing tracks off of BLEACH?

maxwell is becoming emotional. This, I am not used to.

I had a meeting with my ****ing director of photography at a goddamned coffee shop.

Have you ever tried a business meeting at a coffee shop? It's impossible.

I didn't own bleach, but I listened to the pixies and since nirvana is just the pixies with a slim aryan vocalist with no imagination I guess I'm pretty cool as well

and I'm pretty sure Eddie Vedder bagged my groceries once

I could sort of see that.

Yeah, I guess.

I had a teacher who was a massive Dylan fan and bought into it. He loved the man. He was awesome. I still talk to him through e-mail

I myself can't wait for Dylan's new album, more specifically the first video from the album.

Because Scarlett Johansson is in it. :)

I never stated any particular band's name. I wouldn't use Nirvana as an example because, frankly I don't like them all that much. Alice In Chains (see Avvy, title, location and Sig) and Soundgarden >>> Nirvana. Here is what I said, and you quoted.

It just really depends on how old "classic" is to you. If things like the Cosby Show, Wings, Cheers and Roseanne can be on Nick @ Nite and TV Land, which are for classic television, then I'd say classic rock could start creeping into the nineties by now, I mean thats nearly 20 years ago that the grunge thing started moving... :shrugs:

And actually, if you do more research, it wasn't Nirvana, but Green River that started the grunge movement in Seatle. In 1983. And I'm not going by radio airplay. Radio sucks. Thats why I have an iPod, I can pick my OWN music to listen to in my car. Just because it got popular in a certain year doesn't mean it wasn't around before.

Whenever I think of Rolling Stone, I think of the points brought up in my favorite movie, Almost Famous:

They trashed "Layla".

Broke up cream.

Ripped apart every Zeppelin album ever made.

Plus they had a list of I think The 500 Most Important Songs In Rock and Roll and they had, among other blatant acts of stupidty, "Bohemian Rhapsody" at 163 and I think only one Pink Floyd song that was somewhere in the 300s'. They also had an Outkast song on the list. And they've become a political magazine nowadays.

Rolling Stone sucks. Except when Cameron Crowe was there.

Great movie, and too true. Rolling Stone sucks. If you want a good music magazine, I recommend the British import mag: Classic Rock. I get mine every month at Borders, its spendy (like $9 an issue) but it usually has a free CD or DVD, and great f**king articles. Without it I wouldn't have gotten turned onto Thin Lizzy, or Montrose

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look for it at Barnes & Noble.

No, I've been hired by a big movie company... I won't tell you who, but the name rhymes with "pooniversal" and starts with a U.

Also, because its an import, its usually a couple months behind, but being that its mostly classic rock and the only tour dates it shows are in Europe, thats not a big deal :o

Wait. How'd they break up Cream?

And what was on top of the greatest songs ever made? Like a Rolling Stone?

Followed by I Can't Get No Satisfaction, then Imagine.

I think "LARS" was probably number one.

I'm not sure how they broke up Cream. It just mentioned it in the movie. Probably wrote some **** article making them feel inferior, so they decided to disband.

no, I'm not afraid of it, it's blatant commercialism inflames my righteous angerosity.

They're trying to sell you something. Run!

by sucking, the way they do everything.
I guess rolling stone was relevant at some point, it's just been a while since it was i guess.
