I've already listed a large amount of differences in the design, but here you go again, as you seem to be looking through glasses that have black paint over them..

1. The faces are completely different. MGP has a very bat like face, while Rancor's more resembles a dog, or even a human. The Rancor has no air sacks on the side of it's head. The Rancor also has no tounge.

2. The Rancor has short, thick, stubby arms. MGP has long, incredibly thin front legs, and a smaller set of arms coming off it's torso, that are also long and thin. Also, while the Rancor has only a singular elbow, MGP has 3 seperate joints.

3. The Rancor also has thick, powerful looking back legs. MGP has long, thing back legs, that are actually shorter than his front legs.

4. The Rancor has no tail, MGP has quite a large one.

5. The size difference is huge. Rancor is only about 20-30 feet tall, tops, while MGP is the size of a skyscraper.

So...other thant he black eyes and teeth, what exactly about these two monsters is similar??? It's not an opinion. It's fact. An opinion would be you saying "I like apples more than I do watermelon." But this is like if you were to say "Apples and watermelons look the same." It's based on fact, and is easily disproven if you open your eyes.

Your argument is delving more into minor specifics of smaller points to try discredit a larger point, this ones a leopard and this is a cheetah, they still bear a striking resemblance, the only distinguishable feature (and interesting thing) is probably the smaller monsters, and even at that, the terrible Godzilla movie had smaller monsters, everything else in one form or another has been done before, including the physiological build, adding another example: Species 8472 moves around in almost the exact same lanky manner. The way it moves and acts, it's has no personality, it is bland and uninspired, not on par with a a creation such as predator or Alien. The monster roars and attacks people, smashes things, with seemingly little to no explanation, you might as well put a chiwawa against a blue screen and have it bark.

That one I can see the similarities too. But the Rancor has nothing in common with it other than being a monster. Comparing the Rancor to MGP is like comparing Godzilla and Gamera.

I might buy it, the best buy one looks like something someone here on the hype can throw up in a day or two, it dosent give it the "its a real, or documentry" feel to it.

Dear Kez, you obviosly don't appreciate the grestnesss of this movie. It wasn't supposed to be a movie. It was supposed to be an experiance. make ytou feel as if you were there. watching the turmoil Rob,Hud,Marlena,Lily and Beth went through that night. The Monster, If you followed the viral of Cloverfield over the last 6 months prior to the release you'd understand. Clover was a beast that was ''dormant'' underground. It's been there for thousands of years. Pver thoise years it's been drinking the nectar which is something tagruato found and uses for a SLUSHO! ingrediant. So tag keeps drilling. TIDOWAVE are a bunch of crazed enviromentalists that wanted them to stop. BOLDFUTURA is another company involved with SLUSHO! they recently launched a satelite into space. it feel into the ocean RIGHT at the end of the movie which you can see here. The crash wakes up the beast. It rises up and destroys the chaui station. which you can see here. After that, it's all guesses. But here's what I think happened. The army/US goverment knows about the creature so they chase. At night in the ocean, they attack. there's a night vision pic on 1-18-08.com. The Morning after, there's LOTS of blood in the ocean. A trail of blood. That explains yet another pic on 1-18-08.com. The Monster, now pissed. chases a Ship and it fleas. It chases. The Tanker goes to NYC and the monster begins it rampage. It tips it over and leaves. But this is a new world. So the Monster gos to explore. It finds Lady Liberty. It perhaps thinks by it's large size it's challenging him. remember. Clover is a baby. JJ said it himself. He tears it's head off and throws it. Then he goes on land to explore the new world. As you know, babies put things in there mouth. Taste them and spit em out. So as Clover walks around it eats people. Which explains why Marlena says ''It was eating everyone''. They go to the brooklyn bridge, The Monster now knows the scent of Humans. perhaps like the taste of them he chases the massive pack of humans escaping the isalnd. it stops them by destroying the bridge. They have to go back. The Monster likes humans now. so it follows them, yet again. back on land. It goes on another rampage and stuff. it goes through downtown NYC, The parasites rub off of Clovers body and attack the humans. The Monster is still peeved and confused about it's current situation. It's been shot at and everything. So it fights back. Now to the Marlena part. she is bit by a mini monster. poor lass :csad: The venom that the little bastards have go inside Marlena. she goes kaboom. After Rob rescues Beth, they go to the helicopters. Lily escapes and perhaps lives. Beth and Rob die at the end i guess. Now to Huds death. He is a doofus, he picks up the camera looks up to see the monster. He doesn't run. I mean, whats the point. If he runs he'll catch him anyways. so he stays there and hopes the monster doesn't notice him. And we know how that went. if your confused why the movie had random cut backs to scenes form Beth and Robs stay at coney island. WHY?! because, Rob and Beth had made a tape. Coney Island thing and all that jazz. And ofcourse, it was taped over. so it'll randomley go to other places at times. just like real tapes.
I think i just about explained EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT Cloverfield. Oh ait. one more thing. each character had a myspace. no...not the acotrs. the ACTUAL characters. For viral stuff. Rob posted that he had gotten a job in japan. VP of SLUSHO!!!

There that's everything. and i swear, if you dem,and more explanaiton, i'll give you hell! since you don't know jack about cloverfield. that means you never followed the viral. that DOES NOT make you a true fan. We all stuck with the viral right to 1-18-08. You came there expecting godzilla crap. so you fail. good day, sir! :cmad:

Like I said, stick it on youtube, not a movie theater.
I came expecting a movie, which you admittedly, said it wasn't.

If your referring to the the realism cam thing as greatness it was done in a movie called cannibal Holocaust in 1980, to much greater effect, the directer was arrested and had to prove no one died.

You came in expecting a movie, when it was never once advertised as a standard movie, so it's your fault you didnt get what you came for. It's like going to Disney's Enchanted, then getting upset cause it wasnt a sequel to Reservoir Dogs.

PS- Dear Psycho Symbiote,

Paragraphs are our friend.

Your Pal,

J

This was never supposed to have the regular movie effect.

All of the previews showed a handheld camera approach, and thus was marketed correctly. If you went in thinking otherwise, that was your own fault.

Don't blame the movie for your own unrealistic expectation.

They used the handcamera thing to make it seem more like a documentary. To make it more real, almost like it did happen. That was their approch of the movie. Many people liked it but everybody can't. If it didn't have the handcamera and documentary appoach many people would think it was like any other movie and wouldn't have alot of originality to it. It was just a direction they took for the movie. Everybody can't like everything. There's not anything really to discuss about it.

Wait a minute you just praised alien as a great creation and then your next line describes clovie but yet is the exact same description of the xenomorph from aliens. They ran around shrieked and killed people for no reason. But what kind of personality did the xenomorphs have either?

I will give you the personnality bit, yea clovie had no personnality why? Because the monster was more of a backdrop for the characters story. It wasn't a movie about the monster like alien or predator was. The director/writers made an obvious attempt at keeping the details of the monster hidden.

1. A 25 MILLION dollar project put on youtube? yeah.....smart :o. Where is the profit? eh? eh? i thought so.
2. Technically, it was a movie. Just filmed in a different style.
3. and THAT, my good sir, is what they wanted. Just not to that degree.

and i ''admittley'' said it wasn't? what, am i sad i said such thing? am i humiliated? NO! please. leave this thread.

I agree. I like this film and Alien, but the xenomorph wasn't any deeper than Clover or Gwaka or whatever his name is.
They're both just visceral eating machines.

Predator definitely has alot more substance as a character since they're capable of forming their own culture and technology and civilizations...Kong is also an actual character every bit as much as any human is.

I don't really get lambasting Cloverfield for a shallow monster, then turning around and saying that Alien is a great movie though.

Alien, face hugger impregnation, chest burster, consumes and grows, ant like network, people glued to walls, a queen alien, design echoes the surrounding's of the movie and integrates very well ("there in the walls!"), ventilation shafts and so fourth ALA artist HG giger, things such as the aliens not attacking Ripley when she is near the queen or the Queen getting pissed off when her eggs are set alight and comes after her.

ok so your comparing a trilogy with one movie, compare Alien to cloverfield.

Alien
Facehugger > impregnation > chest burst > relentless killing machine

Cloverfield
Underlings > bite > entire body explodes > Giant monster destroying a city.

4:4

Wow they are both the exact same once again. Alien didn't jump deeper into the background of the Xenomorphs until Aliens, Them not attacking ripley cause she is host to a Queen till Alien 3. By the end of alien you didn't know anymore about the xenomorphs than you did in cloverfield.
Common sense dictates that in a Cloverfield sequel we would learn more about the monster and personnality could be formed then, but you can't compare a trilogy of explanations to one movie.

I disagree. It's not just quantity but how well they were implemented.
If it does get a sequel (as it may already be getting I don't know), I honestly do hope they develop the monster and we get better charecters.

I was referring specifically to Alien, since that's the film that was mentioned...but in any event, all you were talking about there was the way the creatures bodies work. It doesn't give them any more of a personality than the Cloverfield monster had.

The Cloverfield monster came from the sea and had smaller parasite creatures coming off of it, the intention of the creature was that it's a confused child in a strange environment looking for its mother...

both characters are just as deep...which is not deep at all. They're eating machines, not much more.

No. that was a point but not the point in it's entirety. Yes, I think it does in my opinion.
The world outside the alien in itself reflects and mirrors the aliens beyond it's visual design like an extension, adding practicality and credibility as to the way it works within that world.

Was that movie any good? I kind want to see it.

There's a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, and there was a guy filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming and he turns over and he sees the ship that's been capsized and sees the headless Statue of Liberty, and then he turns back and this guy's briefly filming him. In my mind that was two movies intersecting for a brief moment, and I thought there was something interesting in the idea that this incident happened and there are so many different points of view, and there are several different movies at least happening that evening and we just saw one piece of another

How come I don't remember this?

Was that movie any good? I kind want to see it.

I didn't really enjoy it. It was too sick and disgusting for me, and it didn't make up for what seemed to be completely gratuitous violence. The turtle soup scene is once example that sticks out in my mind and turned me off to the film.

I'm not like a super environmentalist, but I really do NOT want to see how my food is changed from a live animal to packaged meat. Especially how in Cannibal Holocaust the turtle was alive and kicking... just... ugh.
