I agree, the marketing of this film was brilliant and really once in a lifetime because of how they were so secretive, especially during filming!

The film is a monster movie which we havn't gotten too many of those, especially good ones like The Host, plus this is America's monster.

The decision to film the film as a hand held, personally view, was really a very rare treat and the film is really a great watch!

As much as I love this film, I think they failed at making this "America's" monster.

I think cloverfield was a fun movie. But ultimately its a very dissapointing movie. Every trailer and viral made it seem that cloverfield was all about the monster. But the movie was mainly about the characters surviving the attack.

And i went into the theater thinking i'd learn something about this monster. But no,nothing about its backstory except a lame satelite falling into a ocean.Which doesn't really tell the general public much unless they read about it on the internet.

I think that if the marketing made it show that the movie was about the characters and not focusing on the monster so much i might not have been so dissapointed. And it didn't help that everyone died at the end.

I remember reading that abrams wanted to create an american monster. But he failed in doing that. Expecally since the move told us nothing about the creatures backstory. Hopefully if a sequel is made we'll learn something about the monster.

I have yet to rewatch cloverfield. But now knowing what to expect i think i wont feel as disappointed in watching it. But again it was a fun movie. It really made you feel like you were there. Kudos to the makers of cloverfield with that one. Thats probably one of the few things they did right with this move. Oh and the sound was one of the things they did good on two.I love how i could feel the bass in the theater.

Uh...no they didnt. The trailers all showed the characters video taping it, and never once showed the monster. Nothing in them implied "All monster, all the time!" type action...

Uh...yes they did.I never said anything about the trailers showing the monster.I said they made it seem it was all about the monster. They all lead up to the monster. The trailers didn't even introudce the main characters which would make it seem as they were not important, and only confirm they were trying to market the monster.I repeat they were trying to market the monster.

And all the hype was about where the monster is from and what does it look like. And the movie only showed the monster. It told nothing about where it was from. And those are the facts. Period.

Those are not the facts since you are wrong. The trailers never showed the monster and any hints of what was attacking the city were subtle. I don't see where they marketed it at all as "where did it come from?" or "monster. all. the. time."

Like i said before."I never said that the trailer showed the monster." I never said that they outright and said."where did it come from. Or monster.all.the time. I said it seemed that they did.

The trailer and tv commercials did market the monster.

I always thought the movie was marketed directly as a movie about the people during the attack. The first person point of view kind of gave that away in my opinion. As for answers to where the monster came from, it would have destroyed the entire feel of the movie. If you were there running for your life, trying to just stay alive, the last thing on your mind would be "hey, let's go figure out where this thing came from", all you'd be thinking is "hey, let's get the hell out of here, NOW!". To me, the movie perfectly pulled off the illusion that you were actually there, in the situation, as it happened.

Well I felt it wasn't marketed about the people. IMO. I thought it was about the monster

The second trailer actually did show the monster.

no...it marketed a group trying to survive the night that the monster attacked

Really their is no point of you trying to argue against me. Obviously there are some who agree with me and some who agree with you. And thank you Gotham. Their was a trailer that showed the monster

You most certainly did say that they hyped it as where the monster came from.

I don't see how one can go in to a movie of this type and expect answers like that. This isn't in 3rd person. You are seeing the action through the eyes of a witness. How would you expect them, a person of no military power or rank, to get, what is most likely classified, information like that?

Big time misquote my brother. I said that "all the hype was about where the monster is from". As in hype created by the fans not the media.

Actually, they did reveal where the monster is from, in the viral. If you're too lazy to look it up, that's your fault.

I thought that it the films marketing did bring more anticipation for the monster than the humans. In fact i don't remember anyone saying they were going to see cloverfield for the people.

the problem I had with that was that the monster was a lot more interesting than that group of *******s.
I was just waiting for them to die.
