That sounds good enough and it actually really makes sense. I heard one about the parasites having a lot of infected germs or something like that which causes the human body to react by exploding.

I heard one theory. Since the parasites lived in the deep ocean, their toxic venom may cause the human body to build up 100 times the normal pressure. It was something like that.

That's reasonable enough for me.

And is anyone hoping they add a scene with the monster eating someone? A bit grotesque, but I know they filmed a few (as it was in Goddard's original first draft, like he said).

I doubt they filmed any but it would be cool to see or maybe a few scenes of the monster taking on the military?

I would love to see some of that. The only real scene we saw with the monster being attacked by the military was the crossfire sequence. Matt Reeves did say something about there being over twenty minutes of additional footage they shot.

They did? In that case I hope they come out with an unrated edition.

He had said earlier (in a podcast) that his original draft was very brutal and not necessarily fit for the audience they were aiming for. So it was trimmed, but he said some scenes with the monster devouring people was filmed.

While I dig the idea of seeing it eat people, I think it would take away from the moment at the end where we first see someone get eaten. We haven't seen it before, it's unexpected, and shown in a very interesting way- so I think it makes it that much more shocking and brutal that it's the first time we see someone get eaten.

As for the sequel, we need more and different monsters popping up. And of course it has to be tied to a camera or evidence somehow. News reporting is probably the way to go.

I don't think it'd take away from that in any way at all since they'd be put in the DVD as deleted scenes. I'll take what I can get with this monster.

We don't need a bunch of monster popping up. If there was just one other monster, that'd be cool but from the sounds of it you want more than two monsters. If we get more than two monsters, I can guarantee the sequels will suck.

I finally saw this. Great film but ruined by the shakey cam effect which should only be used by independent filmmakers not big hollywood studios who could afford to shoot this film properly.

As for the monster it looks like it stepped out of the film, "The Mist." It should be dead, dead, dead from all those bombs and missles. It didn't make sense that they had to destroy manhattan to kill it.

I disagree... the shaky effect makes this movie unique.

Yea this movie definitely felt like a follow up to The Mist...I enjoyed both movies a lot, and the geek in me loves to think of it that way.

Yeah, until I checked a little while back, I had no idea I had over 400 posts in this thread and now it's over 500.

Who do you thinks think would win between Clover and a 300 ft tall Xenomorph (alien from the movies Alien)?

While very badass, he is too soft compared to Cloverfield so Clover is our new hero. :hehe:

If Clover EVER has the same effect on American popculture that Kong had and will continue to have, I will print out every page of this thread and eat it on a digital video camera and post it.

Since this supposed sequel would just be from another perspective...how much can they do that hasn't been done yet? I think Cloverfield would be a fine stand-alone movie.

I'm not saying Clover will have the same cultural impact as King Kong but he is more of a beast.

Agreed. This was a very original film and a sequel will only diminish it. I hate to see that happen like it has to so many other movies.

It's not going to diminish anything, a sequel will be fine as we'll get to learn more about the movie. Abrams and crew must have big plans for this franchise so it's just fine that we're getting a sequel.
