I highly doubt that the next movie will be called a sequal to cloverfield it will be its own movie that could have the same monster in it, thats how id want it. I hope they either do a new news coverage of the next town he hits or a possible new monster that may have the same origions(what little there is known) and it attacks a differant city.

I think that the next movie should pick up from where the first movie left off but instead of getting the same city, we should get another city with a new set of characters (I anxiously want to see this thing go into Japan territory, don't know why, though).

Anyhow, to get the conversation back on topic...I'm going to make a bold prediction:

Cloverfield 2 will bomb. Hard.

The first one was a suprise success because of the mystery around it. That will be gone with the sequel. Also, a lot of audience reports indicate non-fanboy movie-goers were very very turned off by the movie. Factor that in with the studio undoubtedly raising the budget because the first one was so successful so they could make it more effect heavy and show more of the monster, and you have all of the ingriedients for a bonafide bomb on your hands.

I doubt they'll be showing the monster a hell of a lot more. They should definitely show him more though (he should have more than around five minutes of screentime).

The studio will likely insist upon more screen time for the monster. Aside from that, they will use the higher budget to improve on non-monster effects (the parasites, the destruction, etc). Mark my words, it'll bomb.
