I was talking about American Godzilla from 1998. That's why it's important to read posts in their entirety.
Sci-Fi website IO9 talked to JJ Abrams at Comic-con, and according to them:
There will be a Cloverfield 2 ... but it won't be a sequel. It will be something "surprising," said Abrams. [Here is] what Abrams told us on video about what the most important monster feature is, from the perspective of a guy who has created a lot of monsters.
already does.It WASN'T! The Monster was completely original. Yes, it was INSPIRED by godzilla. but not the look. JJ abrams wanted a America to have it's own Monster.
By saying it's not a sequel he could be hinting at Cloverfield 2 taking place the same night as the first one, as he's stated before.
Of course, I could be dead wrong.
Actually, that would make more logical sense. The guy filming on the Brooklyn Bridge is coming from the area of the explosion and is on the side where Jason is. I have a feeling that the Jason will survive, but just go off on his own with this person and that's the other film.

Lol, but don't we already have King Kong?It WASN'T! The Monster was completely original. Yes, it was INSPIRED by godzilla. but not the look. JJ abrams wanted a America to have it's own Monster.
Cool shot of Clovey, I would have loved a shot of him rising from the water though as sort of an origin.
I found a video of a guy showing some demos of Cloverfield special effects. There is a shot of Clover that's not in the movie that's pretty cool.
