I was talking about American Godzilla from 1998. That's why it's important to read posts in their entirety.

Which the character was still lifted from Asian cinema..... the cloverfiled monster is 100% American grown, thats what he is getting at.

But I wasn't talking about Cloverfield or the monster, I was talking about American Godzilla in regards to others saying there needs to be a decent remake of Godzilla.

Another movie from this franchise is inbound.

Sci-Fi website IO9 talked to JJ Abrams at Comic-con, and according to them:

There will be a Cloverfield 2 ... but it won't be a sequel. It will be something "surprising," said Abrams. [Here is] what Abrams told us on video about what the most important monster feature is, from the perspective of a guy who has created a lot of monsters.

Since the creature has apparently been killed by the Hammerdown Protocol, I'm wondering if in terms of "surprise" Abrams would be referring to exploring the origin of the monster. I can see a nature expedition film crew investigating some rare creatures whereabouts, (perhaps a giant squid) Next thing we know the creature is on them and we learn more of what kind of world it comes from. A certain Japanese corporation may be disrupting its environment and not be too pleased to see such a crew around their activities. Since the original film delved into having the tape recovered from Rob's camera become property of the U.S. Defense Department this would just be another piece as part of a massive military investigation. It's also an excuse for a much newer, less shaky filming camera that the first movie needed.

By saying it's not a sequel he could be hinting at Cloverfield 2 taking place the same night as the first one, as he's stated before.

Of course, I could be dead wrong.

Maybe its just me but i'd be more than happy with the same night from a military perspective. It would mean we'd see much more of the monster and that way they could probably show its death from the Hammerdown i imagine. Thats my main thing for a sequel though, more monster action.

Actually, that would make more logical sense. The guy filming on the Brooklyn Bridge is coming from the area of the explosion and is on the side where Jason is. I have a feeling that the Jason will survive, but just go off on his own with this person and that's the other film.

Interesting. Maybe we can actually see how MGP destroys the tanker and knocks the head off the statue of liberty.

I just had insight on a theory. What if at the end of the credits, the voice saying "It's still alive," is referring to the camera being left on. I'm wondering if the person saying it is who recovers the camera. If the monster is killed by the Hammerdown Protocol then it makes sense. I also think the creature is dead, because the blue-ray investigator mode mentions Hud and others being rewarded for actions after the fact. Why would the Army give awards unless the crises had been handeled? Or investigate before it was over?

If Jason is alive, I will walk out of the theater. That would be one of the dumbest ideas in modern American cinema history.

I hope we get to see what the actual hammerdown protocol was. I'm confused if that it was just large bombing runs or a nuke.

Can anyone tell me if the script for Cloverfield was ever leaked? I'm working on a piece of fan fiction and it would be very helpful if I could find a copy of it.

Cool shot of Clovey, I would have loved a shot of him rising from the water though as sort of an origin.

I think this movie is a perfect cocktease to whet the apetite for a larger scale Sci-Fi disaster movie like Independence Day or War of the Worlds.

Cloverfield 2 should be from a military point of view using kill cams. Think the FPS scene in Doom and the hive ambush in Aliens.

It's awesome to see the basics of those special effects. Another films should be about a media perspective, who better to deliver an ongoing attack than a stranded film crew in the middle of Manhattan.
