That's the very thing I pointed out earlier. Some people just seem intimidated by the prospect of a thread dedicated to people trying to be civil or friendly. It's a phenomenom I've discovered that on any message board where people try and create a thread that encourages civil, friendly discussion, a group of people will somehow take offense at the idea, and try and derail it.

Meh. You know what? Maybe we should dismiss this as a bad idea. If we have narrow-minded people desperate to derail the idea and flame us all just for TALKING about making a group in a seperate thread (which, if it offended them so much, they could just NOT COME INTO), then how much worse is it going to get trying to take any kind of action elsewhere?

Fact is, the aim of this was to try and make this board civil, and a nicer environment to post in. But its clear that the whiners and the pot-stirrers and the people who just like being annoyances for the hell of it are going to be dogging this whole idea at every turn. So if anything, having such a group on here is only going to make tensions worse. So, if anything, its working against the cause it was set up to pursue.

It was a nice idea, raybia, and I commend you on it. But the attitude around here is just too scummy for it to prevail.

Ain't that the truth. I still fully endorse and support the ideals brought up by Raybia, though. And I believe that we, the intelligent, are still obligated to maintain a healthy environment, keep things on track, deliver logic and shut the morons up when the deserve it... all of which I have vowed to do (and have done) since day one.

As long as you can do these things yourself, as an individual, this place will be able to function correctly and peacefully regardless of the presence of any organized groups.
