Comedies for Oscars anyone?

So when or will it ever happen do you think Comedies will finally get some Oscar love? I think especially in the writing categories they get pretty overlooked, but like as of right now I am having a hard time finding two movies that where better than Superbad, and Knocked Up, like maybe 3:10 to Yuma

I know it will never happen...but is anyone with me? If by years end there are 5 movies better than both Superbad and Knocked I will call this a great year for movies, even Hott Fuzz is leagues a head of everything not named 3:10 to Yuma imo

As Good as It Gets won two Oscars, and Woody Allen have won and been nominated a few times. So it does happen sometimes that comedies wins. But most comedies are simply just not Oscar-material. Comedies are in many ways like horror movies; cheap to make which make them often profitable since it's a popular genre. So we get a lot of them.

I dunno it's much better written at least than anything else

and come on you can't sit here and tell me there are 5 better movies than Knocked Up, Superbad, and Hott Fuzz this year? All three have 85+ on RT, even "critics" seem to agree at least right now they're aren't too many movies better than those three at least right now

Like its pretty much a sure thing American Gangster, and Michael Clayton are Up for plenty of Academy Awards (i.e. cookie cutter AA movies) but that still means there are 3 other movies that can be nominated, I think 1 of these three should get the nod. They are all easily superior all comedies, and critics even seem to agree, so if everyone agrees they are about the best flicks made this year how can they not be in the top 5

Probably but every movie up for best picture I can generally find a couple movies that are way better
When did that come out 05?

I can't come close to saying that brokeback mountain, crash, or capote where better, I don't think ether of those should have been up for best picture, cause Batman Begins and Syriana where much better

well I'm cool with Capote being up, but just like Brokeback, the film as a whole isn't as strong as the performances given

You wanna see a comedy worthy of an Oscar, go Watch "Some Like It Hot" and "The Seven Year Itch"

What justifies a better made film?

good writing, I think the beforementioned comedies have equel or better writing than anything out so far

good characters? Mclovin? is all you need to know, but the cops in superbad where priceless too more memorable than anything else this year

good story Knocked Up handled unwanted pregnency better than any movie I have ever seen

people love it, I'm petty sure both movies where no.1 and 100 million dollar grosses

These are the only ones are on 40 year old virgins level, imo. But I can see how it wouldn't get an Oscar with all that competition. I never liked Broke back Mountain, but I know a lot of people did.

Eastern Promises was...okay...it wasn't anything special just another crime movie nowhere close to some of the better Cronenberg movies

I dunno I'm cool with whatever, I tend to like the movies I think are best, and right now my top 5 of the year is probably

Superbad, 3:10 to yuma, knocked up, hott fuzz and grindhouse

Hehe, Ya I'd rather be moved than laugh at least at the big screen. I just don't go see comedies at the theatres anymore. Comedies will never win a oscar at all unless they make a special award for comedies. I also,think the Oscars etc..are bogus programs bunch of old wrinkled up, stuck-up people who think their in the know are voting for oscars.
I personally didn't care for Hot Fuzz or Eastern Promises(fight scene that was so raved about sux'd balls literally)or Little Miss Sunshine,and I just now saw Knocked up.
I used to love watching Mtv movie awards at least it was voted on by the fans,but /shrug I'm anti-Mtv now so I dont watch much or any of that anymore.
Bottom line is it don't matter what some award says if u think Superbad was better than Munich or something thats cool its your opinion.
We can debate all day which particular film was being better at what it was supposed to be,but until we get to vote we know how it will be..

Really, how smart was Little Miss Sunshine, 'cause I didn't find anything particularly smart about it. It was a self-indulgent melodrama with people who just needed to quit their b****in'! About the only endearing character in the flick was Steve Carrell's. Arkin's nomination should have gone to him. And the humor of a pudgy white eight year-old girl dancing like an idiot to Rick James just doesn't grab me.
