Really looking foward to this one. C. Lee, how bad was GL??
Movie-marketing campaigns are no different from political campaigns; you do everything to try and get everyone in, especially if your film is rated R. I'm not too crazy about the rock soundtrack of the trailer, but I understand why they used it.
Anyone have any idea what the moving snake thing is in Khylar's hand when he says that "Behold in despair, your new master" line?
Ophir is a kingdom in the stories, "The Eye Of Ophir" is something created for the movie ... I think (I've read all the REH and most of the DeCamp, Carter and all the Jordans, but you never know where it may have popped up unless it's completely original).
The Eye of Ophir has actually appeared in many of the Conan stories printed by Marvel.
I don't know that much about Conan, but I'm guess there isn't that much hype because Conan isn't really a character that has stood the test of time. Also, this upcoming film doesn't really seem to have much star power. It has a lot going against in my opinion.
There's no buzz because there's been no promotion for it.
Right, but who talks about Conan, let alone knows about him among the people you come into contact with everyday? He's not like Batman/Superman or Spiderman/X-Men. Kids probably don't know about him either. How many cartoons, toys, etc. have there been over the years compared to the other creations I just mentioned? He's been around for a long time, I'm not questioning that. What I'm saying is that he hasn't been popular for the amount of time that he has been in existence.Hmm I don't know if I agree with "test of time" idea though. I mean he was a part of marvel universe back in 1932. Few current characters can make that claim. Also he had 3 movies made about him feature one of the biggest action stars of all time in his role. His comics ran for about 40 years off an on. I can see the star power issue in this new movie but that's why i was wondering why no buzz, why no better actors wanted to try and take Arnold's place and put their mark on the franchise.
Conan is a character from book that marvel made comics of and then the rights went to Dark Horse, but this is a film based on a books character not a comic book character.
