Really looking foward to this one. C. Lee, how bad was GL??

Movie-marketing campaigns are no different from political campaigns; you do everything to try and get everyone in, especially if your film is rated R. I'm not too crazy about the rock soundtrack of the trailer, but I understand why they used it.

I wonder shy there isn't an outcry (similar to the use of William's Superman theme) to feature the Basil Poledouris Conan theme.

....I don't know, but I sure don't recall a significant outcry for "Batman Begins" not having Danny Elfman's Batman theme.

Well much like this upcoming Superman, this is not a continuation or in any way related to what came before in terms of Conan. Especially since the previous Conan movies were not exactly correct to the lit.

I've been watching Game of Thrones lately and I'm getting more and more interested in this. Momoa is awesome.

Anyone have any idea what the moving snake thing is in Khylar's hand when he says that "Behold in despair, your new master" line?

Ophir is a kingdom in the stories, "The Eye Of Ophir" is something created for the movie ... I think (I've read all the REH and most of the DeCamp, Carter and all the Jordans, but you never know where it may have popped up unless it's completely original).

The Eye of Ophir has actually appeared in many of the Conan stories printed by Marvel.

And it wasn't the snake thing - unless the movie is taking more liberties with what came before it.

I googled Eye of Ophir and couldn't find anything Conan related :s

What exactly is it?

I don't know, some sort of thing with power. As I mentioned above, Ophir is a kingdom in REH's world. If there is an "Eye Of Ophir" in the comics then maybe, I've never read a Conan comic, just the novels. I know what they are calling it from a synopsis I saw on a Conan blog.

I just happened to see the new trailer for the new Conan movie and wondered why I hear absolutely no buzz around it. Anyone have any info on it? I know they have the dude that played Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones as Conan but other then that I'm clueless. I used to collect all the Marvel Conan comics as a kid so I am pleased to see it back on the big screen :)

My fav What IF? book was the one he was in :hehe:

I don't know that much about Conan, but I'm guess there isn't that much hype because Conan isn't really a character that has stood the test of time. Also, this upcoming film doesn't really seem to have much star power. It has a lot going against in my opinion.

There's no buzz because there's been no promotion for it.

Hmm I don't know if I agree with "test of time" idea though. I mean he was a part of marvel universe back in 1932. Few current characters can make that claim. Also he had 3 movies made about him feature one of the biggest action stars of all time in his role. His comics ran for about 40 years off an on. I can see the star power issue in this new movie but that's why i was wondering why no buzz, why no better actors wanted to try and take Arnold's place and put their mark on the franchise.

yea that sucks :( I'll probably go and see it to support the comic book to movie idea just as I did on Green Lantern even though I knew it would suck but oh well :P

Conan is a character from book that marvel made comics of and then the rights went to Dark Horse, but this is a film based on a books character not a comic book character.

Right, but who talks about Conan, let alone knows about him among the people you come into contact with everyday? He's not like Batman/Superman or Spiderman/X-Men. Kids probably don't know about him either. How many cartoons, toys, etc. have there been over the years compared to the other creations I just mentioned? He's been around for a long time, I'm not questioning that. What I'm saying is that he hasn't been popular for the amount of time that he has been in existence.

Actually Conan started out in a Marvel comic book. The series he started in was Strange Tales of Mystery and Terror Volume 2 Number 2 (#5) 1932. It was the first story where Conan was mentioned by his creator.

You're right
