The Dark Knight contacts?

We have yet to get a clear picture, either official or a spy pic, that shows the Joker's eyes. Do you think there is a reason for this, esp. given that his eyes are shut/half-shut in the 2 official pics and Ledger's early comments aobut the importance of his eyes in the performance?

I'd like it if there were some creepy contacts on his eyes, personally.
