From a distance I thought this show was dumb and pandering(let's face it, it wouldn't be on if Twilight wasn't doing the business it does), but I really enjoy it. Though it's shameless in how much it borrows it's concepts from what came before. The whole warewolf issue is still worth a laugh imo.

Look forward to the new season, Paul saves this series for me. However, I'm curious to see just how much of the Angel/Whedon, plot line they are planning on biting with this new direction.

Well, that's the thing these are based on a book series that has been around since the early 90's, so it literally isn't copying anything. As it pre-dates Buffy, Twilight and most popular modern vampire series.

There are so many shows based on books nowadays I feel like Roswell was a head of its time.

The books certainly have been kicking around before Twilight. However, the TV series itself probably wouldn't have been greenlit if teenage romance mixed with vampires/supernatural elements wasn't currently in vogue.

It's the writing that saves it. Plus, the show's awareness of the vampire romance cliches, often poking fun of things like Twilight. What I really love about the show is that they are also able to take those cliches, dissect them and turn them on their heads. For a change, the girl in love with the vampire DOESN'T want to die and become a vampire. The show actually approach and explore the subject in a mature and well thought out way in keeping with the characters.

I see
thought giving Paul W's reaction to finally being given some character range I'd say he either hasn't read the source material, or it isn't in the material and is simply an executive decision based on a proven plot development(buffy season 3).

Yea, I'm always saying it's as if someone fixed twilight and made it make sense...to a point.

I'll never get over the issue of people going to their homes and sleeping across town when the "big bad" is looking to kill them..."hey i'll see you at school tomorrow, yea man good night....what? she's missing?"

Teriffic premiere all around, Crazy Stefan is a riot! but I have to wonder, does anyone really believe that Klaus doesn't know Elena's alive? That doesn't fit with the idea of Klaus being 10 steps ahead of everyone and having eyes and ears everywhere. He has to know but just doesn't care right now, I mean he got what he wanted from her.

As much as I love Buffy/Angel, I think the Stefan storyline has the opportunity to be much more meaningful than the Angelus arc. I mean, first of all, let's face facts here, Angel and Angelus were two different characters. Sure, they could remember the things that the other had done when they were in control, but they were two different guys. Stefan doesn't have that. Sure, I guess you could factor in the whole "turning off your emotions" thing, but I don't consider that to be quite the same degree that losing a soul is. Stefan knows what he's doing. He's doing it to protect those that he loves and is under the watchful eye of a psychopath that could destroy him and anyone he ever cared about without flinching, but he knows what he's doing. I'm just interested to see how far he goes and whether or not he can ever come back from it.

just watched the premiere and lo and behold the final scenes with Stefan and the phone. I figured the producers would commit to at least this idea considering how much they pushed it in the advertising...then again knowing their target audience....of course.

Moreover, it's kinda obvious what would happen if Klaus died tmr as far as Stef's concerned. A waste if you ask me.

As far as the angel comparison, yea I agree the split persona does kinda diffuse the impact...that's the dangerous ground you tread when you deal with demon possession vampires(never a good idea). However the whole angel situation is a thing of beauty. He can only be good when he's miserable etc. A thing a beauty I tells ya.

Right now it seems like it will be easier for them to forgive Stefan for what he has done then it was for Buffy and co. to forgive Angel for what he did. He may have been someone else at the time but Angelus hit them where it hurt, killed Giles love, played with them mentally, so far everything Stefan is doing has nothing to do with any of the main characters which kind of sucks.

Ok I forgot about whats her name that Stefan killed. But unless they make Damien more mad over what Stefan did to whats her name, but knowing Damien he will probably just move on the next day.

Well, it's only been the first episode. :oldrazz:

From what I've heard, episode 3 is supposed to be when Stefan really lets go of who he was before.

Which is twice the shame because I feel Stefan is far worse than Angel. At least with Angel, it's pretty clear that he and Angelus are two very different individuals and are pretty much separate entities living in one body. Stefan does not have that excuse and is fully aware of his actions the entire time. And despite that, he murdered Andie (in a carefully thought out and elaborate display, no less) - complete with premeditation; unlike the others' kills which are primarily reactionary or borne out of desperation. There was no real reason to kill Andie. She was not a threat at all (unlike Jenny Calender). Instead, she was merely a tool to get to Damien.

Just finished season 2 on blu-ray, it was really great!

I liked season 1 as well, but wasn't sure if i cared enough to bother watching a whole other season a year later once season 2 hit stores. I'm glad i gave it another chance though, because now i'm officially hooked and looking forward to the next season release next year.

The show has become such an endless maze of stories and characters, it's almost hard to keep up haha.

Oh, OF COURSE he would be [blackout]Caroline's father![/blackout]

No Heroes references, please. :o

That show failed me so bad...

Figures that creating a hybrid wouldn't be that easy.

new bennet would be her father.

imo it's not working because elena isn't dead

It's not working because Elena isn't dead

When he was looking at Stefan I figured he would charge at him & start punching the **** out of him or something like that figuring out that Elena was not dead

I find it hard to believe all those individuals in the pack has murdered someone to trigger the curse, looked more like a pack of werewolves that triggered the curse via car accidents

oh and I forgot to mention how much I can't stand Elana's need to "help" when all she can do is be a freaking target. I mean since the damn jump it's always been I'm going "in" to help or "I can't just sit here while those two fight"

what the **** are you going to do *****, seriously.
and last night she was at it again, when the wolf was starring her in the face I was like well what now lady? Do your thing.

Then she's like "we have to go help Damon fight it, I can't just sit here...."
Man I just want to slap her and really ask her what's her deal. At least the witch lady can contribute enough to present faulty rhetoric. I remember when she ran into the cave to "help" her man. I was like ok what's she doing to do in the middle of a confrontation exactly?

Sorry but it just bugs me, and it's clearly a sign of the writers trying to push the action. At least with twilight this is worked around.

imo it's not working because elena isn't dead

I hope that's not the case, since it would essentially wind up recycling last season's plot of having the various factions decide to kill/save Elena because she's the doppelganger.

Hopefully it will be revealed that there's another reason; perhaps he's choosing the wrong targets, and should instead be trying to turn untriggered werewolves or vampires (well, he's keeping Stefan around for a reason).
