Huh. Wasn't aware about Endsong.

Considering how they went for a "sequel" and how so f****n little actually happens in Astonishing, I just figured Marvel would think of it as canon in-between Whedon's (arguably lackluster) arcs.

Oh, never said anything about me not liking Astonishing or its arcs. Actually, if I had to complain about something, it would be the creepy Kitty worship.

Was just pointing out that I *do* get why some complain about not much happening.

I mean, take it from a Cyke fan perspective... t:

Before Torn, he gave a speech, blasted a sentinel and like 4 people, got shot, got his a$$$ kicked (first down - no less - in quite a few instances). Seriously, pretty much everyone had done more than him at that point.

Come to think of it, it's not much different from movieverse...

At least it does look like Whedon's been slowly working on redeeming him (*cough* what to do with Cyke if there's an X4! *cough*), but we'll have to wait and see...

Astonishing is just a dreadful comic. I keep buying it hoping it'll improve. I don't see the big deal about Whedon.

He sucks as a TV and film director, and I haven't bothered to read any of his comics.

God, Joss Whedon directing X3 would have been the worst thing to ever happen to that film. Thank god for small miracles.

Good characterization. That's pretty much it, really. I personally like the two universes he created, but I'll admit that his characters/universes are superior to the actual storylines, eh.

BUT, he does get points for bothering with Cyke with Astonishing 14 AND for understanding the character.

That, and while Emma and Kitty were the main players of the last arc, Cyke was its 'offscreen' hero.

I don't know. I liked what Whedon did with some of the Buffy and Angel episodes. To be honest I'm not a big fan of his Astonishing X-Men material at all.

The only good thing about him even directing an X-Men film is his clear understanding of each and every character. One thing is for sure, Rogue wouldn't have been cured, Cyclops wouldn't have "died", Logan wouldn't have saved Jean, and Colossus would've had a more interesting role than he had in the film.

One thing I can't take away from Whedon is his unique ability to create brilliant concepts.

Accept that under Whedon, by his own acknowledgement, we wouldn't have had Colossus in a more interesting role, because Whedon wasn't interested in introducing new characters (except probably Kitty of course, considering his hard on for her)

I don't have a link, sorry, but I do know in an interview he was asked about his X3, and he said he wouldn't introduce Beast or Angel or any new characters at all. That was minus points right there. As someone who doesn't want the bright, colorful costumes implemented, he also said that Phoenix would rise in her trademark green costume... except that she "died" under Alkali Lake in her black, X-Men uniform... how exactly would she get her trademark green Phoenix outfit?

While I don't know what he's like as an X-Men comic writer (I haven't read any of his Astonishing), I am not fond of his ideas he's discussed for what he's done with X-Men 3. I'm not fond of anything he's had a hand in creating, from Buffy and Angel to Alien Resurrection. And his mark on X-Men was quite horrible, what with Storm's infamous Toad line and all.

Whedon is another one whom I'm glad never had the oppourtunity to make an X-Men film. As with Matthew Vaughn, I fear for what a Joss Whedon X-Men film would have been like.

You mean Torn or Unstoppable? Cause Unstoppable just started... Unless this is a 'x-men in space yet again' rant, then, by all means, rant away...

Cause Torn was kinda glorious from a Cyke perspective. I'll admit I'm expecting Joss to screw up the explanation for his nothing-short-of-miraculous recovery.

I mean, everyone else's perception of reality or cognitive faculties have been altered during the arc. Cykewas essentially put in a coma only he could think just fine and started picking himself up the second Emma turned her back on him. Not only that, but he avoided detection from the Nova/Frost pair.

Which is, ya know, kinda roxor.

Summed it up just fine with your 'hard on for Kitty' line. This is her show, she's most likely going to die in a blaze of glory in the next arc and Whedon had to have 4 of the coolest x-characters tag along as supporting cast just for that.

Oh, and for some reason, Whedon seems to think Kitty can take on Emma Frost (which she did, I kid you not). At least Kitty had nothing to do with saving the day in the last arc and the 'old boys' got to do it...

It happened under his watch.

The script that everyone hates so much was written under his supervision. Everyone talks about how the script hardly changed from the script reviewed on AICN, well, the script reviewed by AICN was that Kinberg and Penn wrote with direction from Vaughn. Vaughn wanted the movie to be contriversial. Many of the mistakes, in terms of creative decisions, came from Vaughn's watch. It's another reason why I think that Kinberg and Penn sometimes get unjustly blamed around here for the errors of this movie, because a lot of it was by Vaughn's influence.

Accept for some questionable dialogue, I think that Kinberg and Penn wrote a pretty decent script. It was creative input from Vaughn, and possible lack of talent from Ratner (along with some bad writing, yes, because they aren't blameless) that resulted in many of the errors the film suffers from.
