Daniel Craig confirmed as new James Bond

Everyman said it best, Guy Hamilton gave us both Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever. Perhaps, Campbell will give us the same thing, Goldeneye and Casino Royale. Which way it'll play out, I have no idea. Maybe this time Casino Royale will be considered better than Goldeneye, who knows.

Goldeneye was a pretty character driven film. Alot more atmospheric than TND in my opinion. That's why when TND rolled around, they overcompensated for some of the shortcomings in Goldeneye. Fans complained about the music, so TND had lots of James Bond theme qued up, Goldeneye didn't have alot of action, so TND had action and so on. TND was one of the better formulatic Bond films.

Tomorrow Never Dies on the other hand I have always liked. It's one of my all time favorite Bond films and the only Brosnan Bond movie that I own.

Same here. Yesterday I saw Die Another Day, the 2-disc region 2 DVD, brand new, for a mere £3.99.......and I still didn't buy it. It's that bad.

Bond Is Announced!
The next 007 is
After more than a year of fevered speculation, during which the name of every single non-American leading man under the age of 56 has been bandied about with abandon, the next Bond has finally been cast – and, as expected, it will be Daniel Craig starring in Martin Campbell's Casino Royale.

He joins that small, fairly select group of actors to have officially played the role, following Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

Craig has been a rising star in British cinema, especially over the last two years after the double whammy of Layer Cake and Enduring Love garnered him rave reviews and some box office success.

The 37 year-old takes over from Pierce Brosnan as the filmmakers go for a sort of "Bond Begins" approach, using Ian Fleming's first Bond novel as a basis to reinvent the character as a newly qualified 28 – 31 year-old who has just earned his 007 stripes. We are promised fewer gadgets, fewer cringe-worthy one-liners, and a Bond that has yet to have the edges knocked off him.

This is awesome news. Brosnan seems like a good guy, but he gave off too much of a "winking at the camera" vibe.

Nightmare for recent bond fans, dream come true for discerning movie fans.

Just remember, for those of you disappointed in not having Brosnan, this guy agrees with you:

Jokes aside, this is fantastic news. Craig is just what this franchise needs to return to its gritty and somewhat brutal roots.

If you'd read the books you would know Bond has never been written as a guy with a face like a smacked about Boxer

It's official - the next James Bond will be Daniel Craig!

Post your comments on today's announcement here. I personally think it's a great choice! They picked the one guy who could follow Brosnan (my favourite Bond) in my eyes.

I don't know - I'm not impressed. Then again, I haven't seen any of his work, so I'll have to get Layer Cake to take a look.........

Daniel Craig reminds me of Steve McQueen.

Let's pray that this languishes in development hell.

Check out Road to Perdition, he plays Paul Newman's son...that's all I have seen him in! :(

Layer Cake is highly overrated. Daniel Craig paired with the Bond franchise is a horrible match. I guess that all you need to be Bond is a British accent.

Man he looks like he's 50 and one cig and one tanning appointment away from 70.
