Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 1

The Punisher respects DD, there has been several comics where he says it, including during Ennis Run. He also doesn't want him to become another punisher (as seen in Brubaker first arc, the devil in block D).

While Matt can be violent and around the edges sometimes, he shouldn't be "one bad day away from becoming Frank Castle". As they are using Man without Fear as an inspiration, it's possible he will kill (accidentaly or not) during his first adventure, only to realize he has to control himself (something the movie tried to do).

This. I'm OK with the slogan "one bad day away from being Frank Castle" because Daredevil lives in a violent world. He doesn't have superpowers so, when dealing with dangerous people, he has to seem more dangerous if only to scare them into submission. But, at the same time, Daredevil on a good day is having a bad day. He's had plenty of bad days and he's never crossed that line. The only fear I have is the show assuming Daredevil on a bad day is the only way he can act. Which isn't to say he's Spider-Man on a good day. He'll still have to kick the crap out of people and beat them into submission.

I think that people might be reading into the whole "One bad day from being Frank Castle" a little bit much. I think the showrunner just wanted people to know that Matt Murdock is dark and violent, but not as dark or violent as Castle.

But, then again, I could be wrong.

Ryan Penagos, Marvel's executive editor for digital media, has been posting cryptic tweets about how he's reading the script for episode 4 and it's mind-blowingly awesome.

Yeah, that's how I read it, which is why I'm fine. After all, as I pointed out, Matt's had plenty of bad days.

The character I am most curious about is Peter Shinkoda's character. He was cast pretty early which tells me it's an big role.

Agent Wu? (though he is not Japanese).. maybe a member of the Japanese mafia (i forget their name)

Yakuza ? So he would have a role like the one of Sano Orii ? Why not. But he can also be a member of the Hand

Wasn't his name announced as someone who's apparently an original character?

I'm all for him being a yakuza/crime boss or a leader of the Hand that Kingpin manipulates to ____________ without realizing he's just a pawn. (fill in the blank with anything that shows Fisk's ruthless manipulative genius, starting with "fight daredevil" and working up from there.)

He's an original character, which isn't surprising due to Marvel's history of this starting with Coulson.

I am really excited for this series. I really hope Elektra makes an appearance in the series, as I dont think I could wait till the 2nd season to possibly get a decent portrayal of her. That is if they make a second season.

It wouldn't make sense to introduce Elektra when we have Karen Page right now. I am certain the show will get a season 2 and beyond.

Keep in mind that Elektra was always an ex-girlfriend. When she first appeared, Daredevil was dating Heather Glenn (well, kinda sorta at times). I don't think Karen Page and Elektra at the same time are incompatible, but it would certainly be cause for tension.

One interesting thing to consider is, will the characters in the Marvel Netflix shows overlap, even before Defenders? We know Claire Temple has a connection with Luke Cage. Will we see Nelson & Murdock show up as lawyers brought into conflict with Jessica Jones? Will Iron Fist have a confrontation with The Kingpin?

It would make sense, especially if all four series are meant to happen simultaneously.

You just think that we would have had casting confirmations by now and for that to happen the show runners of the other shows would have had to be involved.

That said it would just leave the possibility of Jessica Jones to be casted.

Hope part of tomorrow's reveals deal with the Netflix shows.

I suspect just Claire Temple, to be honest. It might be for contractual reasons rather than plot reasons, but New York is a big city and they might not want the coincidence factor to go through the roof.

I hope they don't try too hard to put new characters in the show. Especially if they are as dull as coulson.

I hope they only add them if they are as interesting as Coulson.

Either way, new characters will inevitably be created for minor ancillary characters. The alternative is raiding a comic book character for a one-off role that has nothing to do with that character. I know there are a lot of characters in the comics, but it still seems a waste to do that.

May I ask what it is that you find interesting about Coulson (I'm seriously asking because it interests me, not to argue about it)?

I hope we see the tv characters in Infinity War

Same here, or Civil War. Or really any other of the movies. It would be great if DD shows up in the same way that Black Widow was a supporting character in Cap 2. Thing is that most of those movies except for Cap 3 are perhaps on too grand a scale for the street level heroes to really team up in a significant way.

what's the actual premiere date for the DD show? All the Phase 3 stuff has been overshadowing.

I'll confine my answer to the Phase One movies, which is the time period I was talking about. I think the biggest thing is the everyman aspect (OK, the biggest thing is Clark Gregg, who's just so personable and enjoyable). I do agree he started small and almost inconsequentially in Iron Man (his whole point was pretty much for that SHIELD joke). I liked him because he was a tease of the bigger universe. Thor was the same way. He was almost a villain if you think about it, but his moments of reaching out to Thor was nice. Then came Something Funny Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer. He's a hero without costume or powers, but he still saves the day in awesome fashion (that apparently used up their budget for their first two one shots). Then came Avengers and the scene with Loki. When I was in theaters, the whole crowd felt emotional at Coulson's death. I suspect we weren't alone in that.
