Definitely questions I'm excited to learn the answer to. I could see the whole thing as an evolution, he starts out wanting to do this thing, hides his identity in a simple way, then slowly finds his way to Daredevil. The press and Claire Temple will probably play roles in Matt's journey from mysterious, masked vigilante to Daredevil.
In the Ben Affleck film, he used that symbolism because he remembered it from his father who had that kind of nickname as a boxer. It therefore became his first costume as a homage to that.
In the comics though, Matt had the yellow and black outfit and it looked more like a circus costume. His name seemed to come more from someone who is definitely without fear - a daring and brave person who can traverse heights like a tightrope walker and do all kinds of acrobats high above the city like a trapeze artist.
In this series, however, his first costume doesn't appear to be a homage to his father. Therefore it seems that if someone gives him that name, it would be more out of a similar reason to the comics. Temple could perhaps say that he's a real daredevil because he doesn't seem to have any fear or perhaps he's very foolhardy, especially for a blind man.
