So at some points in the trailer the mask is completely red, so it seems like Frank breaks the black one.

Looks as amazing as I hoped. Also, is my brain doing annoying fanboy things or are there two different Daredevil cowls here?? One looks much redder and shinier to me. It's clear his face plate gets pretty roughed up at some point, so maybe we are seeing a suit evolution here.

Some scenes it looks great, others it looks less so. I think it's all down to where his head is angled - when he looks down he looks a bit bizarre, but at other angles it looks fine.

Still, I don't doubt he'll have a new costume by the end of the season

He ewn job is probably after the original breaks...but then he has a compeltely new red one with less black. which looks much better

They are putting an emphasis to the character so people are quickly accustomed to his ideology and methods. This isn't a lack-luster monster of the week villain. This is one of the most famous anti-heroes in comics. It's natural the trailer is focused on him, we know DD and Matt inside out.
