Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread - Part 2

yeah, it makes sense for marvel to continue a marvel knights universe... they can choose to make it part of the MCU or it's own separate. Either way i'd isolate them from the big heroes, and simply let them handle the smaller stuff and street level crime.

If Marvel can get DD back, they can make a Marvel Knights movie with DD, Punisher, Blade, and Moon Knight. Yes, it's not the exact same as the comic version, but this could work and work very well.

I second this! I'd love to see the street level Marvel Hero's do their thing. I don't know if I'd want them to all come together in one film Avengers style, but having them all in the same universe would be pretty cool.

I wouldn't have an avengers team-up unless they do That recent Gangland story with Daredevil, Elektra, Luke and Danny, etc..

or do the midnight sons (marvel will eventually get ghostrider back)

otherwise... Ironfist/Luke Cage/ Daredevil can cross over, Ironfist and Strange can cross over, Strange/Ghostrider/Man-thing (assuming marvel has the rights?)/ and Blade can cross over, Punisher and Daredevil can cross over... etc...

Agreed. I'd like to keep some aspects of the MCU street level. Daredevil and the Punisher are a natural fit. Moon Knight would work well here too. Maybe Cloak and Dagger along side them? I think I'd save Blade for a Midnight Sons film (Blade, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and ideally Ghost Rider).

There are so many great possibilities for the MCU. They've barely scratched the surface of awesomeness. I can't wait for Phase II!

^ Maybe they can include Heroes for Hire in the Marvel Knights movie too, but it all hinges on whether Marvel can get DD back, because he's the centerpiece of MK.

I really hope they can get Heroes for Hire going too; while DD and Punisher can exist largely on their own, Iron Fist and Luke Cage need to team up.

Moon Knight/Dardevil/Punisher just gotta crossover with each other. They're natural fits in each others world and each brings something different to the table.

You're not going to get a great DD movie if Marvel don't get the rights back. You're going to get a rushed out crapfest so Fox can retain the rights. Same with Fantastic Four.
I mean, look what happened with Fantastic Four back in the 90s to keep its rights...

It'll happen again.

X-Men First Class was made to retain the rights to the X-Men franchise and that worked better well. Fox has gotten way better at making movies now then they have been a few years ago. I don't care who makes the next DD film, as long as its good and comes out in the next couple of years.

Talking to SuperHero Hype, The Amazing Spider-Man producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have discussed the possibility of the Sinister Six being used in a future installment in the franchise. It would appear that the success of Marvel's The Avengers has convinced them that it would work, while they also express interest in using the Kingpin too.

If that is true, then why couldn't Sony use Kingpin in their Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon? It seems Avi Arad is just mistaken on that point. Why would Sony even loan Kingpin to Fox in the first place? Marvel didn't want to loan Fox Nick Fury, why is the Kingpin situation different? There are way too many discrepancies to say Sony has the absolute rights to Kingpin. This article says Fox has the rights to Kingpin:

The difference is that DD was never a hugely profitable franchise for Fox, at least nowhere near what X-Men did, even on its worst days (X3 and Wolverine still made money). It's easy to see why they would go through the trouble they did to make First Class, but they might not see DD the same way.

Except with the success of the Dark Knight, putting effort into a franchise that has some similarities is not a bad investment. Fox didn't have to make a good X-men movie to keep the rights, but they did. Also Planet of the Apes was a pretty tarnished franchise, but Fox still put the effort into making the new Planet of the Apes movie in 2011. Fox has gotten better at making movies.

I would love to see a more down to earth Marvel series.. Get DD back and do a whole Punisher, Daredevil, and Moon Knight thing going..

Probably the only way we'll see Punisher in another movie.

im glad slade is gone give daredevil to stephen norrington he is the guy for the job.

I don't think FOX can film this movie in time before the rights go back to Marvel. I hope the movie rights will go back to Marvel.

Playlist made a list of possible guy who could replace slade

i really like the suggestion of Joe Carahan he has shown his ability to do action, drama, and even comedy

and has done some serious gritty stuff like The Grey,Narc and Smoking Aces

Narc specifically is very street centric

i would love it if fox got him to take the directing seat

I was looking forward to David Slade directing. I think his visual style is great for a Daredevil movie. Oh, well. Hopefully they'll find someone just as good or better.

It'd be cool if they built a connected universe between movies with street level heroes like The Amazong Spiderman and this new DD. Have DD's movie open with a scene of Matt defending Frank Castle to establish his existence then give him his own movie. And then find a way to hint at Blade or Moonknight and bring either of them in the picture and then do a street level Avengers-esque movie.

Seeing how Daredevil is my favorite superhero and I'm a big collector/huge fan of Murdock and company, here is my two cents. I envision a Nolan-esque "grounded in reality" take on DD's Hell's Kitchen and its inhabitants. I would love to see someone like David Fincher or Nicolas Winding Refn direct it. Ideally a trilogy would work best.

1. The Man Without Fear: the origin story (done right). Should be based directly off of Frank Miller and John Romita Jr's book of the same name

2. Daredevil: the second movie would be about the introduction of Bullseye and the iconic, tragic death of Elektra. Once again based on Frank Miller's run on DD where all this occurred.

3. Born Again: third movie would be perfect if they based it off of 'Born Again'. Nuke!!!

Anyway...anyone agree with this idea?

Disagree, but don't take it personally. I just don't want to see a bunch of adaptations of well-known stories. (Especially not three in a row.) When it comes to the films, I'd rather see new stories.

Plus, I'm pretty burnt out on Miller these days. :)

Well there goes Slade directing. Now Disney make a play in getting this franchise back.

Hmm burnt out on Miller? Impossible! :P

If you'd like to see a new DD story on the big screen, what villains, themes, characters, and such would you want them to touch upon?

Disney should just make a play for Daredevil so they have that group of characters under their roof. Fox isn't serious or committed to the franchise and that's been clear for many years.
