Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread - Part 2

This NEEDS to be a legal thriller with super hero action. That's the only way this movie sets itself apart from the pack, and apart from the lackluster first effort. Save Born Again and the dismantling of Murdock's life for part 2. Then, part 3 can, and should, draw from Bendis' run where Daredevil's identity is revealed, and his life continues to spiral out of control.

I love the idea of a franchise where we just watch a hero's life completely spiral to hell, but he fights back no matter what. Those are the best Daredevil stories.

You just need to cast someone who can handle the emotion and physicality required. There is no better young actor than Ben Foster (The Messenger, 3:10 To Yuma, Contraband). He doesn't get the attention Gosling does, but he's just as solid.

IF they do a reboot I hope Matt has a case at the center of the story, it would be cool to see a legal thriller mixed with comic book action, it would make DD stand out as he does in his books.

He did in the Director's Cut of the previous film.

Ben Foster would be good for Matt or even Bullseye. He's a really good actor

He's a pretty versatile actor. I bet many viewers wouldn't even recognize him if he showed up as Bullseye.

And I dont even think many reviewers would notice that he's been in a minor role in X-Men 3 and The Punisher, especially with the punisher

Even though I prefer it not to happen, we have Chris Evans playing Torch and Cap, Stevenson playing Punisher and Volstagg. I dont think Foster playing Matt or Bullseye would be a problem

So is this reverting back to Marvel or no?

Sorry if it's been addressed in the thread.

Hopefully we'll know by the end of the year.

Well then what should they use as a story for the first movie of the rebooted series?

Maybe something like a Melvin Potter story, where Matt tries get him leniency for a serious murder charge, all the while trying to stave off mob hits on Potter and threats of Potter's relapse into his psychosis.

I'd like to see Potter as the Gladiator. That would look pretty cool on film with those whirring blades and armour.

I'm not sure that is enough of a story for a whole movie though. I like Gladiator, but I don't think he can carry a whole movie by himself, he is not the brightest guy around so he is limited in how he can drive a story. You need to have another villain in the movie.

That's where the mob come in. Melvin's murder charge is tied into a much larger criminal conspiracy that Matt and his firm uncover in the course of their investigation. It's pretty much the backbone of a myth arc spanning a possible trilogy.

Movie 1: The separate criminal factions are consolidated into a united megacorp under the Kingpin
Movie 2: The megacorp's solidarity fractures because of the events of "Born Again"
Movie 3: A War Games-like free-for-all explodes that plunges Hell's Kitchen into anarchy, forcing DD to return and take control

I still dont think Born Again is the best way to reintroduce Daredevil into the film world

If you link the Gladiator story with Kingpin's rise to power, that could be interesting, you could draw some ideas from the Man Without Fear mini. The only problem is you need a suitable climax, which would be tricky. Gladiator would more of a victim then a villain in the last act and I am not sure DD fighting with Kingpin's random mooks to protect Melvin is an epic enough climax. Would Kingpin having a heavy hitter in the story be too many villains or would add something for the climax?

Also I guess you are saying the second movie would be based on Born Again, correct? I'm not sure what other crime bosses Fox or Marvel would have the rights too, with Sony owning Spidey's rogues gallery. Though an Owl vs. Kingpin war might be in of itself suitable for a movie.

I wasnt responding the Hajime. I was just saying since originally the reboot's plan was to be base on Hajime

I don't think that is the case anymore, there may not be any set script after Slade has dropped out and I heard the script was going through rewrites.

I figure if "Born Again" is the best option for a new movie, they might as well do a TV show.

why?

EDIT: to be specific, why if Born Again the best option should they do a tv show
