Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread - Part 2

This is from an SHH interview with Arad before Amazing Spiderman
SHH: Does Sony have the rights to Kingpin? That was a great Spider-Man villain until Frank Miller took him for his run on Daredevil and he became known more as a Daredevil villain, appearing in that movie. Arad: Believe it or not, Kingpin was on loan to Daredevil, so again, anything that is part of the Spider-Man Universe or introduced in the Spider-Man Universe--without getting too legal beagle here--is an opportunity, and if we have a story that Kingpin is important, I'm sure we can handle that.

Got this from Kingpin's Marvel Wiki page:

Additionally, due to the fact that films rights to Daredevil and related characters (The Kingpin, Bullseye, Elektra, etc.) belong to 20th Century Fox, Kingpin was unable to crossover to the Spider-Man film franchise since that franchise was a property of Sony Pictures Entertainment/Columbia Pictures. Nevertheless, a version of the Kingpin based on the film incarnation appeared once on the short-lived CGI Spider-Man series for MTV, which was a loose adaptation of the 2002 Spider-Man film. Michael Clarke Duncan even reprised the role.

And this from Tombstone's page

Tombstone was chosen over the Kingpin for this role in the Spectacular Spider-Man since despite having originated as a Spider-Man character and that the show's producer Greg Weisman wished to use him, Marvel currently considers the Kingpin as a Daredevil villain which is why the Kingpin was never used for the show since only Spider-Man characters were allowed to be used.

Kingpin is one of the best Marvel villains E V E R and deserves a better adaptation than that of Michael Clarke Duncan's portrayal. The guy's a good actor and the voice was cool for Kingpin but come on. Black Nick Fury is badass and acceptable. But Black/Not fat Kingpin?!? Harder for me to accept for some reason. Also he smoked stogies in the DD movie. He should be smoking cigarettes in one of those long cig holder thingies. :) Pure Kingpin. And give him an ascot.

Off topic somewhat but, in my opinion Michael Clarke Duncan was the best part of the 2003 DD film.

It would be a major bummer if Marvel gets the rights to DD back but not Kingpin's. It would be like getting Superman but no Lex.

His lines were very Kingpin I suppose. But what about his performance did you like so much?

I actually liked a little of what Carnahan had to say about his take on the character. Maybe Marvel should give him a shot when they get the rights back...unless they think they can get Martin Scorsese.
this is where the problem is MARVEL has no intent to make a DD film they would not of made an offer so fox could have DD even longer if they really wanted DD especially with their more grand huge blockbuster scale of films

avengers 2
cap 2
thor 2
im 3
GOTG
Antman

all on their slate not to mention possibilities of black panther and doctor strange

DD does'nt fit the MCU

Marvel should create a subsidiary company to make other types of films that don't fit in with the brighter, more four-colour superheroes. They can produce Marvel Knights style films instead and be released at other times of the year. They don't have to be blockbusters, just pot boilers. If they are a sleeper hit, then all well and good.

yeah imo DD can easily be made for 50-60 million hell the town was made for 37 million for god sakes

Once Marvel gets Daredevil they will do nothing with him. They were willing to let Fox keep Daredevil to get Galactas and Silver surfer.

And only Marvel TV shows will be ones to tie Into the Avengers.

We still don't know when Ant-Man Is coming. It could be between Avengers 2 and 3.And Inless Edgar Wright has changed Ideas It will be hard for Henry Pym to take part In The Avengers films. The Black Panther and Dr Stranger are the top contenders for new film after The Avengers 2.

Marvel's TV shows are likely to be a Hulk Prequel show and Avengers related TV Show. Now characters that Marvel has no plans for films could show up on TV show guest appearances. But besides that don't expect anything from Daredevil anytime soon.

The way I see it is Daredevil is a Marvel creation and character and at the end of the day his rightful home is at Marvel not FOX studios and could do what they see fit with their character.

pretty asinine comment if it wasn't for fox/sony/universal being sold these properties and making these films successful like spiderman, xmen, etc. all those years ago there would'nt be a marvel studios today who was gonna go bankrupt in the 90's

What the hell does this have to do with what I said? I don't dispute what the arrangements did for MS.

not everything should be at marvel imo marvel is not the be all to end all people act like they crap out gold

seeing how well first class became and a better film than marvel's 2011 output imo i really want fox to do this

Even Kevin Feige has said the first X-Men helped set the stage for why Marvel Is today. He called the most Important Marvel films X-Men and Iron Man.Remember untill 2007 Feige and Avi Arad(when he was still head of marvel) were Involved In all Marvel films.Since then with exception of The AMazing SPider-Man Feige has no Involvement with non MS Marvel films.Arad due to deal with Sony remains Involved with Ghost rider and Spider-Man films.

Inless Fox Immedetly hires director for Daredevil and Immedetly rushes production by early October they are going to lose Daredevil. As I have said
Marvel will do nothing with Daredevil.Marvel only has plans for Avengers related films.

The only marvel studios film on my top 10 list Is The Avengers. And I rate X2 higher than the Avengers.I agree First Class was better than Thor and Cap.
I have long maintained as far as I am concerned The best solo film was The Incredible Hulk which Is being treated like a bastard stepchild by Marvel.
And I consider Thor to be weakest film marvel Studios has done.Yes that means I liked Iron Man 2 better.

Seeing how First Class was extremely misogynist and aside from two superb actorst had really awful performances, I just can't agree that it was as good as MS movies of the same year or even better. It had good parts, yes. But an overall good movie? I don't think so.

we owe them the past.. but we live in the present dude.. marvel can completely support themselves now. We got smarter..where they're comic films didnt.

again... that's the past. no one is denying that respect. But... they also butchered alot of characters. You don't sit their and put something on a pedestal when it's sub-par when viewed compared to films today. Characters no longer have to wear black leather, have restricted power use, and are able to stay very true to their comic counter parts in a modern setting. the X-men have always failed at that. Xavier and Magneto are really the only characters they ever got right...

Not everything MS does Is gold. They make changes too. Some people on this board need
to accept people like X-Men,X2,and First Class. And there are those who like First Class
better than Cap and Thor.

I still think Michael C. Hall is nearly perfect for the role of Matt Murdock / Daredevil. But at 41, he's probably "too old" for the studios tastes.

So basically this thread has devolved into a pissing contest.
