Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I'm curious as to how this story was planned as a trilogy. If this film is taking us from Rise to the original, what's left to say?

I mean, this'll probably warrant another sequel if it's good (looks like it will be), and Reeves may stay on since he's such a big fan of the franchise, but I'm just wondering what a third film would entail. Maybe that'll be clearer upon seeing the second film.

The original treatment for this film was set way further down the line, long after Rise. Reeves thought it was skipping to much important points. Presumably a 3rd film could be some version of what they had originally planned for Dawn.

Also, I still love this title.

That first shot looks good, but it doesn't look fully rendered. I think it'll look more detailed and the color timing will be different once the film is completed.

Am I the only one who thinks that?

There is a weird painterly quality to this. I thought it was concept art, similar to the early Avengers posters.

Its definitely a shot from the movie. It'll look amazing by the time the movie comes out. These apes take so long to do

I actually have no problem with the way it looks now. Just as a still, the way the lighting and everything is, its very painterly.

In the panel, Serkis describes Caesar as "10 years older." I guess that gives us a time frame for this new film.

Fox could then do 2-3 films set in the Dr. Zauis era, 3978 A.D.

Triumph of the Planet of the Apes - 2016
Crisis on the Planet of the Apes - 2018
Exile on the Planet of the Apes - 2021
Fall of the Planet of the Apes - 2024

I am curious about this as well, if this movie is bridging the gap what left is there to say after it? If the movie is successful they will make a sequel so we will see but its hard to imagine were the story will go.

I'm sure Reeves is taking a good portion of what they had originally planned for Dawn and just pulling it back to a degree. That's essentially what he said. I mean, if this one still bridges the gap, then I think it probably includes plenty of elements from that treatment.

I suppose we just have to see where Dawn ends. It'll probably have some kind of open story threads at the end which could potentially be made as another film. I mean, presumably, they're going to get a third treatment from Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and then base the final film in the trilogy off their ideas. At least, that's what I would think. Like I said, we have to know where Dawn ends its story, and we won't know what that point is that it leaves off on until we watch the actual film. It'll be a long wait.

Well with the story originally being a trilogy they must have had some ideas at some point, but Reeves changed the story they were going to tell, it will be interesting, I just hope this isnt the last movie with Caesar.

I'm of the belief that they still have some ideas left for a third film, particularly if it was planned as such.

But Reeves has changed the dynamic of what was planned by setting this sequel earlier than it was going to be under Wyatt, so I dont know if those plans are still viable.

A movie set 10 years after the other leaves plenty of stories to tell between then and the full on Ape society/ mute humans/mutant society planet of the original films.

They probably are since plans for a third film would probably just involve setting it even further down the line. Who knows, though.

Exactly.

Psssh... I want the sequel to the Burton movie in the modern day.

This is some nice trolling, but no.

But yeah, I'm unsure of the direction in which a third film could take us. I guess we really have to wait and see what endpoint Dawn leaves us at. I'm pretty excited.

I'm glad with what we're getting now but I actually did want to see that back in the day. The ending was the best part of the movie and gave potential to something we've never seen before (more like the book).

I can't wait for the movie!

I hope the movie will be as successful as the first one!

Is there an explanation known yet for what happens to the Franco character?
