"DC Comics storms the film world"

June tends to get lost amidst all the summer tentpoles. Those won't be the only movies either... you will get an Apatow/Rogen or Sandler movie in that month. Hangover may move if June feels empty, and you usually have action movies that don't need as much time for production that can easily make that summer. It has the sci-fi thing going for it, but it is sandwiched between some major franchises.

^ I don't know.

I don't follow box office takings.

I have a life. :oldrazz:

Sure you do! :whatever: :oldrazz:

what is this "life" that you all speak about? Life has been nonexistent since the snowpacalypse

I was talking about GL sequel chances. All we heard from the SR camp was POTC: DMC. All we heard from TIH was IM and TDK. I get that these films had some serious short comings, but I think any film is bound to have some. Put a movie on par with the Trek reboot in that position and I don't forsee the same kind of success.

I think everyone needs to take a few chill pills and not worry about box office or when films are coming out.

Most of us are gonna see all three of them (GL, Cap, Thor) anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

yea i am planning to see all three and hope all 3 do well enough for the studios to consider them success.

everyone is chill. We're just speculating.

Snowpocalypse?

Mate, I'm in Australia. It's the summer down here.
Well on the East Coast of America there was this big snowstorm/blizzard that had alot of people stuck in there homes not able to do much. I was one of them. Today was the first time I was able to leave my neighborhood in a week

i am lucking out i am in upper western ny area and we keep missing the big storms. we have snow but that was from some snow drops last week.

i dont know what youre reading but everyone is chill. We're just speculating.

You beat me to it! There really isn't any arguing just BO talk. But I guess chill pill is the new word of the day so..............I'll take one. :cwink:

Yea all we can hope for is all these films to be sucess cause of any fail. its good riddence to seeing that character in a film for a long time, or any lower class guys getting a shot.

You know what I really really dont get...why is WB/DC having such problems bringing The Six, or Green Arrow to the big screen? I know its been talked about to death but I really cant understand it
I mean look between 2010-11 so many sword and sandal/greek mythology films are coming out and it wouldve been a perfect time for a WW film but I'm guessing we wont see one
When the Flash film was coming along they had Ryan Reynolds who was someone the fans liked, a good actor, and someone who knew about and was interested in the role and they let that ship sail
And everyone wants darker superhero films and yet Green Arrow is beign ignored (unless you count SuperMax *shudders*)

Why has it taken this long for them to (hopefully) get there sh** right

Yeah I love RR as an actor but I think he'd make a better Flash than GL. He even lobbied for the part but WB cast him as GL which I don't understand. We'll see how this turns out.................if it turns out becuase until the cameras start to role, I'm not going to believe it.

it would have been fun to see him as flash i too wish they could have gotten a few of the big names guys out within the past decade the tech is there fans wanted it and nothing.

It's easier said than done. When one actually analyzes just how many pieces have to be created and timed perfectly in conjunction with one another to form a whole...it's a daunting task. Anyone that assumes it's a matter of signing papers here and there and shouting "ACTION!" are severely misinformed.

I believe it'll get made
But I cant see Reynolds as Hal still. Ive seen his more dramatic work but still I cant see it. Samething goes for all 3 of the final choices

I do hope it does well though

I'm not saying that its not a "daunting task" but Im saying that so many comic film books are getting made that are alot less known then say Green Arrow and yet they are getting made over a relatively cheap to make superhero like Green Arrow

And how many of those are good and make a sizable profit?

I think people just don't understand how WB does business.

They generally don't go, we want to develop Property A, let's attach a director to that.

WB's business strategy is, Director A has done good work, let's ask them what they want to do next.

WB didn't hire Nolan to make a Batman movie, per se, they liked his work on Memento and Insomnia and asked what he would like to do and he pitched WB Batman.

The Wachowskis had a big hit with The Matrix and WB asked them what they wanted to do next and they said V for Vendetta.

Zach Snyder had a hit with Dawn of the Dead and when asked what he wanted to do next, he said 300. And when that was a hit he said Watchmen.

I'm sure if a big time director like Scorsese, Eastwood, Scott, etc. had approached WB with an idea for a Flash, Wonder Woman, or Green Arrow movie over the years, WB would have been all over it.

There are some definite plusses to having the studio letting talented directors do what they want to do. And I think it's part and parcel of why WB isn't generally a micromanager. They're letting directors set the vision of a franchise.

Great news

A note from Geoff Johns

There is no place on Earth that has a more diverse and deep universe of characters and worlds. From Atrocitus to Y: The Last Man. My love for DC started when I first saw the Flash take on Captain Cold in the Challenge of the Super-Friends. I never ate my Honeycomb that fast. It when I bought my first comic books in 1985, including Crisis on Infinite Earths, alongside my Super Powers figures and only grew over the years until I broke into the industry myself.

So what does a “Chief Creative Officer” do? Well, I still wear t-shirts and write and go to conventions, but I’ll be doing a whole lot more too.

Under the leadership of Jim and Dan, I’ll continue writing and giving my creative input as I have been in comic books. But expanding onto that, Diane’s asked me to take our comic book world, embrace it (as I do) and use it to lead the creative charge on bringing it all to film, toys, television, video games, animation and beyond. The Justice Society appearing on Smallville was only the beginning.

Let’s all let this sink in a little more: Martin Campbell of Casino Royale is directing Green Lantern. And over the last few months, I’ve met with Ryan Reynolds to talk all-things Green Lantern, I’ve worked closely with Green Lantern producer Donald Deline and screenwriter Michael Goldenberg on the script (Aw yeah, Kilowog!) and I’ve realized that the Green Lantern comics and film and everything growing out of them (wait until you see what!) is only the beginning of what DC Entertainment has coming our way under Diane and Jeff Robinov’s leadership.

And I have to say something about Jeff too. He’s made Warner Brothers the most successful and artist-friendly studio out there and that will carry over into DC Entertainment. He knows what we know: the potential of DC is infinite. We couldn’t be in better hands on that front. Expect the characters we love, the A-list and the ones even you and I might barely know, to be shepherded into the “outside world” with respect, care and unbridled energy. They’ll be plenty of Batman and Superman, but there are a whole lot of characters from the DC Universe, Mad, Vertigo and Wildstorm waiting to be unleashed.

From Geoff Johns

I hope to see good things coming now in the next few yrs.

Great news, great team.

Here's hoping for some good films headed our way.

for those who want a theory why DC movies (besides Batman) have been lagging, this article has an intersting news bit:

Gregory Noveck, currently SVP Creative Affairs for DC, and their main Hollywood connection, will report to Geoff Johns; who tangentially, Noveck was instrumental in getting Johns involved with the Hollywood side of things. Noveck was widely seen as a fall guy for DC’s halting efforts in the movie business, (a story in Variety about all the changes last September did all but finger him directly), so his future with the company remains clouded at best.

Intially, Noveck was brought in prior to the formation of DC Entertainment, as a liaison between the two factions. Since now things are different and DC plays a more active role with WB, there's not much of a need for Noveck. You have Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, and the entire DC crew to work with, so sadly they Don't need the middle man.
