Someone else said somewhere that Simone has done amazing work on Diana -- she's honorable, intelligent, kind, kickass, and with a great sense of humor to boot -- but the threats and plots have not nearly been worthy of that character. I...half-agree with that, 'cause I think half of the plots have been worthy and half haven't. I thought that the first arc, The Circle, was pretty much flawless, for instance.I think what's got me down most is the Greek gods returning and being all ******ed and evil and, for whatever reason, forgetfulhuh
. Diana's world seems very much cut in half with Themyscira an empty husk and the gods all off their rockers.
The real main problem of the series right now is that all the interesting plots have been happening in the background. Holy ****, Dr. Psycho switched brains with Sarge Steel!...but more on that later. WTF, Zeus has gone off his rocker and made a nation out of zombie Argonauts!...check back next year. Until then we've got to make do with...Genocide. Joys.
And the main problem with Genocide right now -- other than Simone telling instead of showing us her threat (for gods' sakes all she's really done so far is punch things) -- is that the whole "Diana's dark mirror" thing has been done to death before. Devastation back in Eric Luke's run, Circe not so long ago, even the Cheetah is traditionally played as that. What's so special about her? We don't know, 'cause Simone sure hasn't been showing us anything. She punches things. She's got dead people in her eyes. Okay then.
Gaahh, you got me started.
