DC plans to kill Batman

*taps fingers, rolls eyes*

I wonder if this "death of a bat" is tied into the Ras resurrection?

And maybe its just the end of Wayne as we know him...what if he decides to stop pretending and blends the bat persona with his everyday life?

I don't think they'll do it. They better not. It's a cheap stunt. When Superman died it was a great epic. And something big has already been done with Batman, it was called Knightfall.

Batman was just getting cleaned up, they'd better watch it.

It's bad enough Captain America had to be a part of Marvel's rip off of the Death of Superman, don't do that to Batman.

I'm sick of that cheap stunt. You wanna' keep interest in Batman, then do it with good art and good stories not cheap B.S.!
Alos it was bad enough waiting around years ago for Wayne to return after breaking his back I don't feel like waiting around again. I'll just read back issues and wait for the crap to be over if it is true.

There have been rumors about this all over the place. Frankly, with the time frame you gave I don't think so.

Just as the other guy said, do you really think DC would kill off Batman just before TDK? I think not sir!

Besides, the relaunch of issue #1 is a dead giveaway.
Doesn't the Dark Knight come out in July?

The movie hits, they kill Batman a week later, all the people interested from the movies buy the new Batman #1 to see what's up. Sounds like some pretty good marketing to me.

Edit: Its almost exactly the same as what Marvel did with Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man...

I wouldn't say Cap's death is a rip off of the Death of Superman, seeing as how that happened more then 10 years ago now.

Especially since Caps death was awesome and Supermans was one of the worst things ever put on paper.

Well that's certainly one way to look at it, but I think at the very least it made for a really cool animated movie.

Which is better?

a) Batman sacrifices his life to save an innocent nobody citizen in a routine bust-up

b) Batman is finally tagged by lethal bullet, shot by some stupid frightened, desperate crook no less

c) Batman dies fighting an arch villain in what began as a routine confrontation

d) Batman is methologically hunted and murdered, similar to Banes quest in Knightfall

or what other options would you put on the table?

Haven't seen the movie yet I have been lazy. And the comic was just bad. Supermans death should be done right and not have him be punched to death. That was super ******ed.

(super ******ed...tee hee)

Batman's a highly trained fighter so I don't think the average thug thing will do the job. Personally a scenario I'm picturing is Batman fighting Damien in some sort of battle to the death. The Dark Knight isn't prepared to kill his son, which gives Damien an advantage and results in Batman's death.

I haven't read anyone else mentioning it in this thread but wasn't there already a Batman story where Dick Grayson assumed the mantle for a short period of time?

Batman dying of diarrhea by eating a bad falafel.
Yes, that's the reason why those guy's kids didn't like his falafels... :p

Narrative closure would require him to be shot by a mugger (whether in the same alley, or while rescuing a family, whatever). Any other death is just a bit unsatisfying, in terms of storytelling. So its a cross between a and b with a bit of e.

Just have him die unexpectedly at the end of (what on the surface) is a typical issue of Detective Comics. No need to hype it in advance to sell the issue, word of mouth would be just as effective and just that little bit classier.

I think Batman's career starting to avenge his parents being murdered and ending with him being murdered by his son has a nice kinda symmetry about it.

Grim but nice:woot:

Didn't they try this with Superman too? :whatever:
This just seems like a desperate attempt at trying to reinvigerate the character, but what DC can't seem to understand is that the problem lies not with the character (who is consistently voted the greatest comic book character) but with lame writing that doesn't do the character justice.
Maybe if they didn't produce so many bat-titles they could concentrate on doing, say two really good books every month.

the writing on the character right now is the best there's been for ten years.
two books? okay. right. sure

the comparisons with superman are weak, lazy and predictable

I'd recommend it, but then again my taste in movies has a pretty wide range so take that with a grain of salt. Without spoiling anything, I'll tell you that he is not killed by being punched to death in the film.

I like this idea, but I'm also torn between a Holmes-esqe ending with the Joker. Especially if it played out like it did with Holmes' death. Have Robin go to the scene and piece together what happened using dective work.

I plan to check it out but like I said just been lazy. I hear it isn't half bad and DC seems to make some pretty good cartoon adaptaions, unlike marvel with their crappy animated flicks.

Yeah Supes death in the comics was terrible.

I loled.

Even if Batman "dies" he will return. The character has appeal, and if he is dead..how will DC sell Batman merchandise?

does anyone else feel the need to point out that Batman cannot stay dead forever?

Personally, I'm hoping he's attacked by a whole army of bad guys and he beats them all down but is injured so badly during the fight...he dies. :(

YES

according to ComicBookResources the replacement for Batman is none other than...

BAT PROMOTION
The last two LITG columns... this one and this one, have covered the death of Bruce Wayne, his ascendancy as a Fifth World New God, and his replacement here on Earth.
I can now tell you that the new Batman will be designed by Alex Ross and will see Jason Todd under the cowl.
Poor Dick Grayson. Don't you hate it when someone junior to you is promoted above your head?
This is all part of a cross-continuity, longform story by Grant Morrison and in terms of structure bears similarity to his “New X-Men,” but on a far wider scale. It sounds rather good.

which is what I said before

I want to see Jason take over and make promises to Alfred, Gordon and the Robins to "reform", i.e. no more destruction and killing. Then Dick has to decide whether he's okay with that, and if not, what's he gonna do about it.

:D  :hyper: :batty:

i bet it's all black, except for a v shape from the shoulders to the navel that will look like the classic suit:ninja: , that's def bs...
