DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 3

On Nightwing : I feel that not having Tomasi write this new series is a missed opportunity. This guy Kyle Higgins has written what exactly? That's right, jack ****. I know I jerk off about Tomasi alot but if theres one character the guy writes above and beyond the rest it's Dick Grayson.

That is one decision I don't really understand. Back when Tomasi was going to be the new full time writer on Batman and Robin wasn't the whole hook that he'd written Dick before and knew how to write the character like nobody else's business (I never read his run on Nightwing but that's what I've heard)? But now he's just done the one arc and now its Bruce instead of Dick so I don't really understand why they would have him still on it, other than that its a slightly higher profile book than Nightwing. But still.

Although Higgins handling both the Deathstroke and Nightwing books could be cool if they don't erase the fact that Deathstroke is basically Nightwings nemesis. Some cool 2parter-crossover's could come out of it.

I could definitely dig that if he's a solid writer. He's in a unique position to build on that animosity between the two and would be a shame if he didn't utilize that and have a crossover between the two.

:O

That's really sweet of you to say!

You seem fab too

That might be pretty neat if we got a really good Deathstroke vs Nightwing crossover

I think its a shame that Tomasi isnt writing Nightwing too but i will read the first couple of issues of his series and see what I think of it

The new writer might be really good

DC has confirmed that Batman Beyond will be returning along with Superman Beyond and Justice League Beyond.

Titles that don't sell well will be cancelled quickly. Creators that are unable to keep up on their books will be replaced.

What do they mean by canceling quickly? Like Marvel style? Or will they let stuff like Secret Six last long? Like 20k was good enough for them, right?

I liked Batman Beyond but I'm not planning to buy those

I hope they give the new series a chance and don't cancel them too quickly

Many of the new 52 books will have six issue story arcs, and Dan DiDio states that if sales are bad on a title, they won’t wait very long to cancel it. He wants strong sales across the line.

DiDio also mentioned maybe getting to a total of eighty titles published company wide, including kids comics and Vertigo.

He also wants comics to ship on time and even mentioned that he is very willing to replace a writer or an artist if they fall behind.

Lets just see how long that stays in effect.

Target demographic is men ages '18 to 34'.

Idiots.

"Target demographic is men ages '18 to 34', though they do realize that they have readers in other demographics."

Use the whole quote next time.

One more year and I'm out of that demo. :csad:

They're still idiots for focusing on the 18-34 demographic.

I got interested in superheroes when I was a kid, and I'd wager that just about everyone else here did as well. Yes, there should be comics for adults, but characters like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman should be all ages.

That's not what sells though.

DC realizes that most of their current customers are ones they got hooked 10 years ago when they were 8-10 like you said and are catering towards them rather than try and get new customers in.

That's what the shows like Batman Brave and the Bold and Avengers :EMH's are for.

So basically they're selling comics to the same people and they're not getting any new ones. They've catered to the fans they have already and alienated everyone else.

They're good but it's a sad state of affairs if you have to convince people to read comics through other mediums.

Pretty much what I expected; same maneuver Didio pulled with Wally West; he wanted to highlight the return of Barry, which meant Wally got pushed out the books for the time being.

Hopefully with good writers this time. Still, i am not that interested in JL Beyond if i'm honest. Maybe if the members were people we know, or successors to people we know?

Adam Beechen will still be writing Batman Beyond and Tom DeFalco will be writing Superman Beyond

wait..........there's a Superman Beyond??

is that new?

ah, yes. just read about it.

kind of disappointed that it's about an "older" Kal-El.

would have preferred if it dealt with Superman and Lois' son, or even a grown up Superboy ( Conner ). y'know........a new, future Superman........

If they're gonna flat out cancel books after only six issues for bad sales, and if they stick to that which is really doubtful given how many have a good chance selling poorly whether they're good or not, then all this effort put into less superheroish comics is pretty much a waste cause its doubtful those will sell anywhere near as well as their big guns.

I'm guessing that you got interested in comics though either an animated series or movie though. That's how it usually works, kids get interested in the characters through a different medium and then they get into comics. The sad thing is that kids don't read anymore. It isn't just about content, though that does factor into it. Maybe digital distribution will help with that.
