DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 4

but now we have titles that we read in a breeze just because there isn't enough dialogue.

That was my main problem with Millar / Hitch on FF. I grew up reading Byrne boxes. Took you the whole trip home just to read one comic. :D

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Yeah, I was surprised that in spite of the numerous options they gave, it broke down to a binary response of "Absolutely" or "Not at all" almost across the board. And then the "Absolutely" responses were mainly for the comics that already sell well--a few Bat-titles, Green Lantern--or the things that DC is promoting the hell out of via their mega-superstar creative teams--Action Comics, JLA, Aquaman, etc. Batgirl was a bit of a surprise, though. I guess Simone speaking out on how dear the character is to her actually may have made a difference to the CBR crowd...

Batgirl didn't really surprise me. On one hand, it's an extremely controversial concept. On the other hand, it's Gail Simone, arguably the best possible choice to hand the assignment to. I think what the poll may dictate is that one or the other narrows down their level of interest, with the concept of Babs regaining her legs dictating low interest, and Simone's credentials dictating high interest, because it honestly doesn't have much else going for it beyond that.

If Cassandra's hanging around the series, I may give it a look at some point. It's not a day-one buy for me, though.

I have a mixed reaction, mostly because I just don't trust anyone in the industry now to get these characters right. Hopefully it'll be upbeat and fun and different from gloom and doom laden modern comics.

The art-the art will be fantastic.

But isn't this exactly what you want? Superman being the first superhero being more along the lines of what Siegel and Schuster envisioned, the JSA back and being on Earth-2?

I'm giving it a try. Azzarello building a horror comic around the character just sounds way too intriguing to pass up.

I just finished reading JMS's uber 14 issue run for WW... man, it's so abstract and confusing I'm glad it's about Wonder Woman

Yeah I be hoping that Cass shows up in the Batgirl comic book too. Her and Steph could team up with Barbara and have adventures :)

Wonder Woman looks really shaky...

I wouldnt worry too much

Hopefully its going to sell alright. I cant imagine that DC would ever cancel the Wonder Woman comic unless sales were truly awful

I hold little stock in that poll, largely because it's so absolutist. I tried to balance out my thinking a bit and keep an open mind, voting "Absolutely" for the books I can't wait for and am already planning on making a series commitment to, "Very Likely" for the books I'm getting for issue 1 and somewhat looking forward to but uncertain about longer term commitments, "Likely" for books I'm probably going to get for an issue depending on reviews, "Unlikely" for titles I probably won't get barring some amazing reviews and word of mouth, and "Not at all" for books I have absolutely zero interest in going anywhere near no matter what the response to them is. The Absolutely/Not at all divide seems to much like huffy knee-jerk reactions to me, which I was hoping we'd have moved past by now.

As for Batgirl, that's a book that's sneaked up. I think it really benefitted from the "women in comics" controversy at Comic-Con, as a lot of retailers are reporting Batgirl as being in their top 5 most ordered books, up with the more obvious favorites like Justice League and Action Comics.

Well known comic critic/journalist Tim Callahan has read the New 52 #1s, and here are his thoughts:

Wonder Woman Top? Yeeeees!

Green Arrow bottom??? Noooooooo!

Looking at this, I think the poster from another forum I got these tweets from may be mistaken. This could just as easily be read as Callahan's predictions about what titles are going to be the best rather than the verdict of someone who's read the books.

Oh yeah, for those that don't like wonder woman this is the right time to try it, i'm one of those that is going to try it as i only saw her animated movie and not much more.
I'm still intrigued by the character

Batwoman is the number one comic book I absolutely have to buy for me. Glad to see it so highly rated :woot:

Awwwww Suicide Squad getting no love. I was going to buy it because its got Harley Quinn and King Shark. Now I'm not so sure

And yay for Wonder Woman  I hope its as good as he says it is. I'm fairly optimistic about Azzarello

See, the DC reboot is beneficial for this one person... :o

Azzarello making it a horror comic sounds pretty interesting though I am a little worried that he's going to end up killing off a ton of Amazons :csad:
