DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

Yeah, I'd hesitate to say that unequivocally. Hell, I'd be surprised if the majority of the comic-buying populace even knew what the page counts on half of the comics they buy are. Most people seem to judge an issue's length by whether or not the issue feels satisfying, and that's due as much to the writer's pacing and the events that transpire as the number of pages.

that, plus you usually pay for the extra pages you get.

Apparently DC's "Drawing the Line at $2.99" goes out the window when they completely restart universes. :whatever:

With comics, length is in the reading. 40 splash pages goes by a lot faster than 10 pages of dialogue.

All but 4 of the new 52 are $2.99 and the four that aren't are over-sized issues.

Justice league wasn't over-sized

I know. But the point of their whole Drawing the Line campaign was that NO books would be over $2.99. But they know that these books are gonna sell like hotcakes anyway, so they just ditch that rule? It's a total ***** move, if you ask me.

That was never the point. It was to keep regular sized issues at $2.99. Never did they say that all books would be $2.99, they have always charged more for books with more content.

And yes, Justice League was over 20 pages, the standard amount of story pages in a comic. At least DC told you they were moving to 20 pages, Marvel's been doing it without notifying fans and in many cases keeps the books at $3.99.

Just taking a stab at it, I'd say most of my comics are somewhere between 32 and 36 pages.

Well, didn't the Drawing the Line thing come about right after they stopped doing the back-up features? I thought that was the point of it. Kinda them saying that we only get one story in each title, but we'll only be paying 2.99 for all of them.

Marvel's never had any back-up stories that warranted the price raise. But I don't recall any Marvel books being 3.99 for 20 pages either.

PunisherMAX is a series that they've been charging S3.99 for 20 pages. Same with Captain America.

oh, I don't read either of those. But that's even more of a ***** move than DC's.

Too bad you wouldn't know it to read it. :o

Marvel is the absolute worst when it comes to how they treat their customers. DC is at least up front and honest about when they talk about prices. They go into detail about what the extra content in Justice League, Action Comics, Men of War, and All Star Western offer. They came out and said that "Drawing the Line at $2.99" is going to bring a reduced page count to 20 story pages. While what they may say may not be desirable (like the extra content in Justice League not being that awesome or having a lower page count), at least DC will tell the consumer what they are doing.

Marvel on the other hand will reduce page count while still charging $3.99 while trying to be sneaky about it. They go off acting like how they're reducing prices on their books just like DC is, except they don't. And don't forget the double shipping, the .1 gimmick, etc. to milk their consumers. Marvel's been pissing me off lately in how they treat their fans like chumps.

How long as Marvel been pulling this $3.99 bs for most of their books?

Also, wasn't there an interview with someone at marvel and they said something along the lines of that they were charging extra just to see if people would still buy it?

No, the point was we'd be getting 20 page comics for 2.99 consistently.

And DC has made good on that oath.

Oversized issues have always been more money. And there's nothing really wrong with that, because it is more product.

What people have a problem with, and what DC promised not to do, was charge more for less pages.

Dropping the second feature was just because they weren't popular enough to warrant a continuation.

the drawing the line policy has been consistent since it was announced

Marvel quietly moved back to $2.99 for most of its normal-sized ongoings as well after DC introduced its Drawing the Line initiative. Some of its mini-series are $2.99 again as well, but I haven't been paying enough attention to say whether that's the rule or the exception.

Cap
Mighty Thor
All the Avengers books

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but as of last month, still $3.99.
