DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

I don't think enough happened in most of these books to form a solid opinion either way to tell you the truth.
Eh, you can usually get at least some sense of the tone and what the writers have in mind for the series from the first issue. That's kind of the point of a first issue.

Top 5...

1) Batman
2) Demon Knights
3) Swamp Thing
4) Animal Man
5) Wonder Woman

Too bad most of these writers missed the point.

Of the new 52 I have picked up so far:

1. Nightwing (tie with)
1. Batman
3. Batman and Robin
4. Detective (Which I'm going to drop. Not really liking it)

The only one left for me to get is All-Star Western. Have to feed my Jonah Hex fix.

The way I compiled my list was recalling my initial reactions and how intense they were, and then also looking at my reactions after re-reading them more than once.

1. Wonder Woman
2. Batwoman
3. Animal Man
4. OMAC
5. Swamp Thing

I'm not really sure I can even put those 5 in an order but that was an attempt. To make worthy mention I had trouble not putting Demon Knights on the list. =[

The book that grabbed me the most so far is Action Comics. Swamp Thing, Justice League, Animal Man, and Batman are also standouts. Green Lantern was pretty sharp, too.

I don't think I could make a top five as not all have been released and when they are I'll be able to judge plus you'd have to get all 52 for the list to be accurate in my opinion.

Oh has a variant been announced for Aquaman #1 yet?

I'll have to disageee there hippie hunter personally I thought Batwoman was perfect. And while I liked Action Comics, Wonder Woman and Animal Man had some slight flaws that kept them from being perfect

I still loved them though and I loved Batman too

The flaws I found with the book are:

1. The book reads as if it were written a year ago as opposed to the post-Flashpoint universe. As a result, it really isn't new reader friendly like it should be. On the bright side, at least all you need to pick up is Batwoman: Elegy, which is something that everyone should be reading anyways :o

2. J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman are great, but they are no Greg Rucka. It's like going from perfection to something that is almost perfect. It's a slight downgrade, but it still feels like a downgrade.

I can't speak for long time Wonder Woman fans, but Wonder Woman 1 blew me away as a first time reader of a WW solo comic book.

Nightwing was good, but nothing out of the extraordinary. Everything is by the numbers. Higgins has a good grip on the character, but I won't pay every month for an average comic book. Sad, especially since Dick was handled extraordinarily in the past few years by Morrison and Snyder.

Catwoman was awful. Trashy as hell. Dropped.

Blue Beetle. Disappointed. Too decompressed in my opinion.

Captain Atom: I'm dropping this. You need a really talented writer to pull of something like Captain Atom.

So from week one

Continue Buying: Animal Man, Action Comics, Stormwatch
Dropped: Justice League, Swamp Thing, Detective Comics

From Week 2
Continue buying: Green Lantern, Frankenstein
Dropped: Resurrection Man, Demon Knights

From week 3
Continue buying: Batman, Wonder Woman
Dropped: Nightwing, Catwoman, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom

Nightwing was pretty awesome. Not sure why you'd drop that.

Everyone should absolutely buy Batwoman: Elegy

I dont really see this one as a flaw so we'll have to disagree there.

Really?

I thought it was slightly different from Rucka but still just as good

But I'm glad you still enjoyed it hippie_hunter :)

Some of them have read way too fast its true. That was my only major complaint about Wonder Woman

I rather liked Catwoman. Not in my top five or anything but I'll probably give it a couple more issues

Demon Knights was indeed fun on a bun

A bun made of fun :awesome:

That's odd. I almost found it to be too compressed. They rushed through plotpoints that took like 12 issues for the first series to delve into.

All that I've liked so far was Action Comics-Batwoman was supposed to be on my list but my LCS missed it so I'll have to get a second printing.

Everything else so far has been very bland but I only get paid every two weeks so I only go to the LCS every two weeks. So I haven't gotten this weeks books yet.

Funds is limited, so all I've picked up has been:

1. Action Comics-loved it
2. Batman and Robin-It was okay. Liked the idea of Bruce changing from the night of their deaths to their anniversary, though.
3. Detective Comics-kinda sucked
4. JLA or I guess "JL" since tradition and America apparently sucks-very meh.
5. Green Lantern-heroes do not ask their GF's to sign on car loans for them. This book sucked ass.

After reading Action Comics 1, I immediately thought of Kurosawa, grinning and smiling.

Yeah, Action Comics 1 is Superman done right. Morrison should write Superman forever.

My concern though, what if this golden age attitude only stays for the 1st arc? I really hope he retains this attitude until the modern timeline. We'll find out next week in Superman 1.

Anyway, although Rags Morales is a hell of a storyteller, the pupils in the eyes of his characters go too wild sometimes, like they're cross-eyed or something.

Well, I decided after a hiatus from buying monthly comics, to pick up some of DC's new books, even though I think this reboot is ultimately pointless.

Action Comics - I really liked this issue, even if I still can't get over my nerd rage due to DC relaunching ACTION COMICS. I'm liking the throwback Superman, and I don't even hate the 'costume'. Sticking with it.

Batman - Wow. First, I really dig how the artist draws Batman. Overall he's good, but his Batman rocks. I'm bummed Dick isn't Batman, and that Morrison's Batman Inc story was interrupted, but I really loved this issue.

Nightwing - I'm torn. I loved Nightwing, especially his initial run with Chuck Dixon. Grant Morrison's issues of Batman and Robin are some of the best comics Ive read, and I really enjoyed Dick as Batman, trying to raise Bruce's kid. But this issue was, meh, for me. It would have helped if he had his old costume. I doubt I'll stick around unfortunately.

Demon Knights - It was pretty good, but I don't know if I'll continue with it. Funds are limited, and I'd rather read this in trades.....well, now that I think about it, this was actually really awesome, and weaponized dragons never disappoint. I'm with this for the time being.

Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E - I liked it, but not enough to buy it every month.

StormWatch - Same.

...no offense...but why on earth...would a blue V instead of a red V convince you to buy a comic?

Knowing you, man, you shouldn't have even bothered buying half of those books.

You should've stuck to Animal Man/Swamp Thing/Wonder Woman, etc.

Do you think you'll be sticking with it
Yeah. Cause it was pretty much what it was before. I liked that it seemed to have even more of a Mexican influence.

Although Paco was a bit too rough around the edges for me.

Without reading it viewers could interpret Nightwing's use of red on his costume to indicate a changed attitude now being more ruthless or bloodthirsty. First time I saw the costume it made me think of Vigilante or Jason Todd more than Dick.

Not saying it's true just saying how a costume colour could affect opinions.

Yet when Jason Todd dressed up as Nightwing he wore blue. Huh.

Well, I've been buying Detective since 73, so it was just habit. The rest are the books I was already getting before the reboot.

To me, I'm looking at it like this: what I like will never come back, but I'm gonna read Morrison's Superman regardless. And I'll get some Hawkman stories out of it. And maybe even an Earth-2 JSA. So anything I like is a huge, huge plus. And now that the books that I've bought all my life (Action, Superman, Detective, Batman) all have broken runs just like every other title, I can quit anytime and not feel obligated.
