DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 6

I'm totally missing something with those titles. I just don't read them and think, "Wow! I need to pick that up next month."

I'm not picking up Demon Knights or Frankenstein. It's both because there aren't enough characters that I care about, and my wallet is already hurting.

I don't know how I feel about Demon Knights. I love Etrigan. I love Madame Xanadu. It's a fun, action/adventure comedy book. And that's alright. But it was far from what I was expecting it to be: something serious, and much more epic and grand. As it is, the humor isn't really funny and Vandal Savage being this loud, boisterous goofball kind of conflicts with what Cornell said about him being a reluctant hero(which I find interesting, considering he's a villain). And while the book isn't bad per se, it's just not my cup of tea. But i'll wait out the arc, simply because I love the characters too much.

Batman and Robin rocked, I'm glad i stuck with issue 2 since I didn't like issue 1. Lots of unexpected moments, and Bruce really seemed to have lightened up. Gone are the days of psychotic Batman.

Detictive Comics, the 3 Green Lantern books, Supergirl, Animal Man and Stormwatch. There are other I might download but I can't afford them all, I might pick them up in trades if they are really good. Oh and I might flick through Justice League in the shop before I make up my final mind on that one.

Of the ones I've read so far from my pile Northlanders was my favorite of the DC published books this week but when it comes to the new 52 then so far it's Frankenstein. Issue 2 really was a blast. Issue 1's art was grating at times to me but this time it really worked for me greatly and enhanced Lemire's awesome narrative backdrop. Everything flowed gracefully; no jumbled panels or extra scratchy pencils this time. Just pure visual poetry.

Anyhow: Simone's apparently off Firestorm.

The hottest rumour burning down the pre-NYCC parties is that Gail Simone, co-writer of DC Relaunch title Fury Of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men with Ethan Van Sciver, has walked off the comic.

The reason being given by the Manhattan tittle tattlers is over editorial conflicts over the book, the kind of thing alluded to here.

This only applies to Firestorm however, this is not the case with the bestselling DC relaunch comic Batgirl, also written by Simone. But for many, Simone is not just a good writer, but seen as fighting the case for female creators and characters at the company. If indeed she has left the series over the reasons suggested, that won’t play well for DC this week. Expect it to be a topic of converation at the DC party, certainly.

Because it seems that Simone did have plans for Firestorm, if this panel from today’s Batgirl #2 is any indication…

Well, I was planning on dropping Firestorm after the first arc. This only solidifies it for me.

Big editorial pushes are going to create problems for some writers, this can really only be the beginning.

That book did suck. Those two characters were so unlikable. They mention Editorial decisions. I wonder if they tampered with her and Van Sciver's work, or if they sided with something Van Sciver thought was good and she didn't or what.

Firestorm blew but I was like Hippie gonna drop it after the first arc.

Nubs won't he just b writing action and inevitably changing the Superman Mythos like he did for Batman? I think that is the most likley course of action for him.

I don't know man. By the time he finishes up Leviathan, he may have put down enough issues of Supes to be done with him if you count All-Star.

Yeah but after reading articles and interview with him, the guy seems to LOVE and understand the character so well that he doesn't want to just end it. I could be wrong though.

If you liked that, you need to go back and read his Starman run.

Some of the best comics ever written.

Which makes most of his current stuff rather depressing.

Seven Heroes that were active and not dead or anything at that particular time. Go.
