DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 8

Absolutely agree.
Kurosawa, judging from your comments I'm guessing we may be about the same age. Like you I'm a bit of a purist too. However, I liked the post crisis interpretations of Cap and Superman (by Byrne/Ordway). I actually did enjoy the Superman Red/Blue storyline too (I really love Ron Frenz' work) and like you I was hoping Earth-2 would be a reward for we grown ups putting up with this "New 52 mess".
Also I still stand by my postulation that DC may yet use the "escape hatch" if the New 52 does not work out (my comic shop guy says sales are already declining; still way too early I know but.....never say never).:cwink:

DC will never revert back from 'The New 52' idea. The risk of ''egg on the face'' would be to much for the egos of Didio and Lee to handle.

Sales will balance out and we'll be back to were we where this time last year.

Perhaps....perhaps not.
It's all about sales figures. The corporate interest will always trump the egos of the creative minds....just ask anyone in the music industry; it happens quite often.
Our money is the deciding factor. :cwink:

New 52 will be a footnote in history like Heroes Reborn in a year. Sales are sure to head back to the pre-new 52 levels once the new hero smell wears off.

I'd say Egg is soon to be on the face of Didio and Lee.Pink slips will be handed to them by Warner Brass. Warner will probably clean house at DC editorial sooner rather than later. It's gonna be a bloodbath. If they were smart they'd start looking for new jobs right now.

Sad that Geoff Johns got involved in this mess. But he's gonna be a casualty of war. Oh well, Marvel will probably hire him once he's let go.

Old DC Classic will be back. There's too much merchandising money to be lost pushing DCnU long-term.

Lol, none of that will happen.

The part about sales falling is only logical.

I think New 52 will be a footnote in comics in more like 5-10 years. It's a bit like Crisis on Infinite Earths being a footnote where only hard core fans know what it was all about.

I wouldn't be surprised if DC broke the 52 mold and started having more than the core 52 on going books sooner than later. That might've happened from what I know.

Well, obviously the new 52 will apply by the same rules all events have; sales spike, followed by a leveling out, etc. It's more the concept that it will be viewed as an utter failure and everyone will lose their jobs that's ******ed as ****.

Personally, I do think the DCnU will revert back eventually. But it won't be as us "hey, this experienment failed, let's go back to the way thigs were!" It'll just be the basis of another event DC does to drive sales at some point. Batman or Superman will realize that the world has changed, and they'll discover Flashpoint has happened, etc.

Oh, their egos wouldn't suffer in the slightest. If they revert, all they have to do is pretend as if it was always the plan to use the New 52 to boost sales and eventually introduce new readers to the old DC Universe. Regardless of whether it was, they'd make it seem like some sort of broad master stroke that's been set in motion since before the relaunch and claim the classic continuity was always going to come back regardless of how well the New 52 performed.

Not that they will revert. Who knows if that's going to happen. Before the relaunch, DC was pretty predictable in their business tactics. The decision to go forward with the relaunch in and of itself changed that.

Probably not like that....but it is a pretty amusing scenario.:funny:

I'm sure the DCnU will revert but I personally believe it won't be some big event comic that causes it, it'll simply be the slow evolution of characters and titles that move each back to their old styles.

I see some doing it but not all of them. I think WW will most likely stay the same along with Batman.

There's not that much to revert back to except for the origin of the JL and Superman and Wonder Woman's history. But I'd prefer that they didn't do a revert. I wish they did however do a full reboot instead of a soft one.

They were stupid to not do a full on reboot instead of picking and choosing and just making things just as complicated as it was a few years ago.

I'm glad they didn't do a full reboot I would have hated that

I dont want the characters I care about to be erased retconned or rebooted

Personally I'm enjoying the DCU more now than I was before. The only thing I miss from the old DCU is Secret Six

I'm buying far more dc comic books and enjoying far more DC comic books

I'm not a fan of reboots or retcons normally but the new DCU is something I am really enjoying and I hope its here to stay :)

I hope Superman doesn't revert back completelly, and i hope Grant Morrison gives him a big story arc like he did with Batman, he himself said that while with Batman he was using old concepts and stories as references, with Superman he will use old concepts but will build a completelly new mythology for the character.

It would be cool if he one day returned to Justice League too.

GA absolutely works best as the hippie liberal. Although I do like the smart-ass GA from Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Yeah, I love hippie liberal Green Arrow. While I can be a pretty conservative guy, I always liked how the DC characters have always been rather diverse politically with the more conservative heroes like Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, the more socialistic Superman (who is far more interesting than a conservative Superman), the borderline reactionary Hawkman, the libertarian Batman, and the hippie liberal Green Arrow.

Taking away the leftie politics just feels wrong.

Bye bye Helena Bertinelli, nice reading you! I hope DC already has this huntress mini artist on another book because they are to good not to be used.
He's moving onto Batwing.

I don't see a full reversion to the pre-Flashpoint DCU. I think that DC is going to keep what really works in the post-Flashpoint DCU (Grant Morrison's take on Superman for example) and bring back concepts that should have never been gotten rid of to begin with (like bringing back Superman's traditional costume).

I never read much of Green Arrow, only saw him some times in Smallville (which is a very different version), and in the comics i allways imagined him as a kind of hippie suppoerter, didn't know it was really in the comics, it was only a hunch :D

That's neat I'm enjoying that book right now so I'll look forward to seeing his artwork on it

I think old numbering will come back round the next milestone for Batman, Detective, Action and Wonder Woman. That's when maybe we'll see some of the Old DC peak through again. Still though I think NDCU is here to stay primarily.

DC has once again taken all 10 spots in the charts. However, Marvel has taken the lead in market share with Marvel having a 36% dollar share to DC's 29% and a 39% unit share to DC's 35%.

I hope they do not jettison the universe in the comics; I am spending far more on them now than in the past. Outside of one subscrption, I spend $12, and have ordered five tp's, in addition to buying signed comics: I purchased one of Amy Reeder's Batwoman 6. Outside of finances, I am really invested in this universe. To return to the preceding one is unfathomable; especially since I've read a didquieting amount of internet fanboy chatter wanting Barbara back in the wheelchair. If she returns to it, I will be furious.

And Aquaman outsold all of the Marvel books again... Not to put down any Marvel books, but I'm happy for ol' Aquaman.

There will eventually be a change. Though I doubt they'll be going back. In another 20 or so years, they'll have another big event, and characters will die, and a new reboot will come about. (Except for Batman and whoever else seems to be doing well at the time.)Then there will be people that loved this version pissed, and a bunch of new guys talking about how much better the new stuff is,(even thought they never really read the other stuff to begin with.) etc. Circle of not-having-a-life. :o
