DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 8

So 73 years of history and they want to change his name... I have always wondered why Captain Marvel was a DC character but that's still no excuse to re-name him now. So when he fights Superman for the first time in the reboot does this mean he can't tell Superman his name without turning back to Billy Batson?

He was Captain Marvel when Marvel was Timely, if I recall correctly. :BA

Where do Batman, Teen Angst, and Power Girl come into play in that article...?

I'm totally gonna take him more seriously now that he has a hood. Hoods = serious business. Fact.

****... Seems like every week DC do something else to piss me off. Don't get me wrong, they're my guys, but... it's getting harder and harder to love them... :(

Ladies and gents, Earth-2's Jay Garrick.

....ook..he looks awfully young. And so far I am not seeing anything that would make Helena/Karren want to get back to their Earth.

His helmet's a little too Hank Pym for me. Also, the same problem I have with most of this new 52 remains: It's just chage for the sake of change.

- The story of issue #1 begins with a few characters (including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman) who are "gripped" in a dire situation. But then an "event" happens, and "out of that conflict," some familiar faces begin to "take the mantles of superheroes in the future."

- Jay Garrick is the "everyman" through which readers are introduced to the world of Earth 2. While the name Jay Garrick may be familiar to older DC readers as the elderly Golden Age Flash, in this comic, he's younger, as seen in our exclusive art for the cover of Earth 2 #2.

- Alan Scott and Al Pratt are also key characters in the story of Earth 2.

- Robinson said: "It isn't the Justice Society. It's Earth 2. So it's going to be a whole world of different characters."

- The comic also introduces different versions of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman, but Robinson said Earth 2 is an "ensemble" book, and doesn't just focus on the Trinity. (For previously released information on those three Earth 2 characters, see our summary here.)

- The first issue also includes Helena Wayne as Robin, and Karen Starr as Supergirl, before they somehow end up on the main DCU Earth as Huntress and Power Girl (as seen in the current Huntress mini-series and May's World's Finest).

- The differences between the main DCU Earth and Earth 2 are not traceable to one easy explanation (such as, "they lost the war").

- Fans of Wally West and Donna Troy should not expect to see them on Earth 2, because Robinson said he doesn't know what the plans are for those characters.

- Although Parademons show up on the first variant cover to Earth 2, don't expect to see Darkseid (keep reading for Robinson's cryptic explanation of that).

- DC and its writers have a tough time figuring out what to call the main DCU Earth. Robinson originally used terms like "Earth One" and "Earth Prime," but Newsarama inquired with DC editorial and was told that Robinson should have used "main DCU Earth." This is the second time a DC writer accidentally used the wrong name for the main DCU Earth in an interview with Newsarama.

That Shazam design...

The hood and electrical powers...Yeah, that'll make him KEWL to the kids!

The hood looks like Floyd Mayweather with a towel on his head.

I love how they try to make everything XTREME 90's in 2012.

DC needs regime change. Fire EVERYONE. And I mean EVERYONE. Leave no position without termination.

Yea...the Shazam redesign really doesn't look all that different to me. The lightning bolts coming out of him feel justified in that picture because I think its a moment where Batson says the magic word. And within a thundering explosion, comes Shazam. It works. The picture doesn't do a great job of showing it off anyway.

Earth-2 though...I kind of dig the Jay Garrick design. However, I'm conflicted. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman are all angsty violent people. Which I hate. But Flash, Green Lantern and The Atom are still noble and heroic...and not crazy. Which I think is great.

I'm more concerned with how he's going to be written

As long as Captain Marvel is written better than he has been lately i wont mind what his costume is like

They need to bring back Tawky Tawny too :)

Ok, Jay is officially the worst redesign of the new 52....

They really should have kept his classic helmet look i think

Jay's looks kinda bad, but not too god awful. It mainly just looks weird to me, especially his helmet.

DC is already doing the same thing with JL and Batwoman...it would just have to be done on a larger scale.
But the artist on Justice League is more along the lines of a fill-in artist, not a rotating artist. And Amy Reeder isn't coming back after her arc on Batwoman despite DC's promotions that she will be rotating with J.H. Williams III.

Yes, but you've gotten sick of it because Marvel's editorial staff ****es out their books more than a Hollywood Madame ****es out her, well, ****es.
Well yeah.

The actual concept itself isn't that bad. If DC did it with some sophistication and dignity...it wouldn't be bad.
I wouldn't have minded it if Marvel didn't pump it out with almost all of their books and do it on a monthly basis. Double shipping every once and a while isn't bad.

Also, take into account that DC is attempting to follow a strict schedule now. Certain books come out on certain dates. Double shipping would mess that schedule up quite a bit.

Huh? Where did you hear this? I thought she and Williams were going to mix together for the third arc?

Maybe Reeder will mix it together for the third arc, but I've heard that she's so fed up with DC that once her contract is over she's outta there.

Really? That's interesting. What's driving her away?
