DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 8

Is there really hate for the trunks? It's just a good thing to make jokes about but does anyone really hate them?

Yes. There is hate for the trunks. This is the internet. Stupidity rules the earth.

As long as there's something red around the midpoint of his body to break up the mass of blue in his colorscheme, I'm cool with or without trunks. The belt does a... decent job of filling that role, I guess.

Another thing I would definitely change is the black \S/ on his cape. The color black has no place being on his costume, unless he's mourning after OWAW or just returned from the dead. Change it to yellow, damn you.

Personally I have no problem with the new look for Superman; but then again I also loved the Superman Blue run and thought they should have kept it a little bit longer before splitting him up. Superman Blue in JLA was just pure Boss. Plus the stories then were fresh and good.

I'll be honest I don't understand why so many people hate the trunks

it's no sillier than the cape or any other part of the costume

wearing a cape isnt as silly as wearing undies over your pants or whatever. While I dont HATE the trunks, I could care less if they ever made a comeback.

Here's a question why is there even a need to change Earth-2. I thought Flashpoint was suppose to only effect new Earth so why did they need to change the rest of them as well? Also shouldn't we see some elements from Flashpoint not just the world has changed I just feel they should have done maybe a little more.

That's what I'm baffled about. Flashpoint only affected New Earth + Milestone, Earth-13, and Earth-50. I don't get how Earth-2 has been so dramatically affected.

Won't Earth-2 now also have Earth-2 versions of the new characters to the DC Universe?

If New Earth is affected, the multiverse will be affected because every Earth is a recreation of New Earth but with little bits of history either missing or altered. So the changes to the New Earth will affect the 52.

Not to mention the multiverse should now not exist :o.

Anyway, I don't mind most of the redesigns, and they're not gonna be going anywhere. I was never bothered by the trunks, but now they're gone, I don't see the point in going back.

There may be no point in going back but it is like Superman Blue, Black/Venom Spider-Man, Iron Spider-Man and the new FF Spider-Man. They are all redesigns that will be forgotten when the next lot of artests come along and change it back to classic looks.

When you buy a Superman costume/t-shirt he'll still have his trunks becuase that is how people know him, unless you buy a Man of Steel movie tie in costume/t-shirt.

This wasn't just a one character redesign though. It was a relaunch of the entire company, under it's reshuffle as part of DCE, every character was changed, it was definitely the most drastic reboot since the Golden-Silver Age transition. Not one character escaped without at least minor costume and drastic history changes.

Not true, what was explained is each Earth worked as it's own Earth or world and was not affected by the stuff that happens on New Earth. So not to confuse the reader. Which is why some are wondering why did the changes effect Earth 2 when DC plainly stated that Flashpoint would only effect New Earth, Wildstorm, and Milestone and bring them all together. Which I have yet to see Icon DC:cmad::cmad::cmad:.

Yeah, but the 51 were made at a point during New Earth's history. New Earth's history has changes so by default, the 51 must have too. So Alex Luthor must have made 51 copies of this New New Earth. But since Alex Luthor never technically existed, neither should the multiverse.

No the 51 were made before New Earth. New Earth was just one of the 51 earths made out of IC. Which is why they got a new history and all.

Milestone was already merged into New Earth by the time Flashpoint came in. The other Earth that was merged was the Vertigo DCU.

While these events are no longer in continuity, the effects of the various mergings and separations still are. Without those mergings we wouldn't have Milestone, Charlton, WildStorm, Quality, and Fawcett characters in the DC Universe. The mere fact that they still remain in the DC Universe shows that even though the events of the various Crises never happened, the effects still do.

Not only that, but the other universes were stated to have their own histories and different vibrational frequencies, so unless they were directly affected like what Pandora did to New Earth, Earth-13, and Earth-50 by merging them, there should be no reason why Earth-2 should be affected.

I just don't see the point to redo Earth-2. To me thats like them going back and rewriting the history for Earht-22. Earth-2 should have just stayed untouched and you do a brief history of the Earth and the JSA of that Earth starting after IC. Better yet starting after the JSA/Earth-2 crossover we had.

I was hoping that they would keep the real Earth-Two to throw the grown-ups a bone, but the Image/Marvel hacks they have brought in couldn't leave it alone, much less bring in someone like Roy Thomas who actually understands history.

Yeah, I really was hoping for the real Earth-2 for this one :csad:

I was excited to read about JSA since I'm relatively unfamiliar with them, but with how different this one is, I don't feel the need to check it out.

If I hear good things about it, I'll pick it up, but I'm not expecting anything.

the new team on green arrow is really great

massive step up in both writing and art

I disagree about the art, but the writing is definitely better.

The real problem with GA now is that his current character is really just a reinvention of the original GA from the 50s and 60s. But, problem is, no one from the modern audience (us) really has any attachment or knowledge of that original incarnation. The O'Neil/Adams run is what put GA on the map, and until his characterization matures enough to come closer to that series, he's always going to see very...off.

You'd think they would have jumped at the chance to hippie him up what with all that Occupy and Anonymous stuff going on. They coulda easily found an audience for him. Instead, he's just Batman lite again.

Bye bye Helena Bertinelli, nice reading you! I hope DC already has this huntress mini artist on another book because they are to good not to be used.

GA absolutely works best as the hippie liberal. Although I do like the smart-ass GA from Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
