DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 9

Having a character that was pretty firmly heterosexual in the past while showing absolutely no signs of homosexuality is offensive. It's as you say, people don't turn gay. It's just what you are and it's the way it should be treated in comics. It's pandering as well, instead of treating homosexuality as something that is well....natural, they're treating it as a gimmick. Which makes it even more insulting. And dare I say, it's insulting to the fans of the character chosen as well.

And then let's take into account that DC may be overhyping this and it turns out that it isn't a major character, but a character that no one cares about like Vibe. Which would make this thing even more insulting as well.

I don't see anything good coming out of this.

Over 1 Billion dollars world-wide on the Avengers.......that is what this is all about! The panic button has been presssed at DC. Marvel is the darling of the superhero world and DC is desperately trying to say "Hey guys we're here too!" So they do stupid hand stands like this or totally blow up whatever current universe they have going at the time.

"Hey.....let's turn an old established hero into a homosexual! ABC News will cover it......it'll be so cool!" But then sells will tank because the appeal will not be there.!

Meanwhile Marvel just does it with good writing and ownership of their characters.

It sounds like it's someone they haven't introduced in the New 52 yet.

Yes that's why I'm guessing Starman (with his mighty gravity rod!)
:woot:

He said they'd be the most popular gay character. So, more than Batwoman. Which means they'll be changing a character who will have been established possibly for decades as straight, and now suddenly they're gay?

Changing a characters sexuality suddenly is ridiculously stupid. Why not just use the new GL they're introducing?

Whoever it is there's no way I'll love them more than Batwoman

She's my favouritest lesbian character of all time and my favourite character in general too

Not that i bring it up much :o

Vibe is a stupid character. And the stupid DC Nation short they aired Saturday was just as stupid as his stupid faced character. :o

He didn't say they'd be the most popular. He said they'd be one of the most prominent. Big difference.

This has nothing to do with the Avengers making $1 billion dollars. The Dark Knight has also crossed that mark and Warner Bros. has the Man of Steel to look forward to.

Marvel does the exact same thing. As a matter in fact they're going to announce the Northstar marriage on the View. Both companies are pretty damn shameless when it comes to pointless promotions.

DC has complete ownership of their characters, if not more so. Warner Bros. has the entire DC roster under their banner while Walt Disney Pictures lacks Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, you know some of their biggest names.

Not only that but DC's comic output is currently of a higher quality than Marvel's. And in terms of comic sales, DC looks a bit healthier, even with all the Avengers hype until Avengers vs. X-Men, every single Marvel book was getting outsold by Aquaman. ****ing Aquaman. Let that sink.

I love Aquaman. It's probably my favorite DC title right now.:word:

yeah, gay Batman jokes. Because nobody has heard enough of those. :whatever:

Sorry, guess I'm just in a juvenile mood. (lighten up, those jokes never get old.)

The stupidity of this statement is mind boggling.

If they actually characterized Aquaman like they did back in '04, he'd probably be one of my favorite characters too. Currently, he and his book is a mere shell of the awesomeness of 8 years ago.

If done well, as a Batman fan, I actually wouldn't mind Batman being gay or bi. However, I'm thoroughly sure they wouldn't do it well at all, and he'd just end up a big obnoxious stereotype. :o

Also, no offensive Double H, but Marvel's editorial staff is doing a much better job than DC's at the moment, IMO.

Also, I think we should all start a campaign to more properly realign existing characters' sexualities called "Straight for Kate, Gay for Gar and Bi for Guy." :o

There is no way in hell they would make their second flagship character gay. They just won't, and I'm just laying it out there.

No one said they would.

And I'm saying they wouldn't. :o

I gotta get the last word.

That's a statement I can certainly agree with.

While DC has overall been putting out a better product, a lot of their editorial moves have severely hindered a lot of their books with stupid decisions often just to create change for the sake of change. And there are just a lot of aspects where we are getting completely separate takes on characters as opposed to a unified universe, like how Tony Daniel's Batman in Detective Comics feels completely different than Scott Snyder's Batman in Batman. And a couple of books just feel like they don't even belong within the DC Universe narrative like Batwoman and Action Comics.

While Marvel's overall output has been rather meh thanks to their boneheaded sticking to event after event after event it really does feel that there is a much better sense of coherency throughout the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man feels like the same character no matter what book you read him in whether it be Dan Slott's Amazing Spider-Man or Zeb Wells' Avenging Spider-Man. And the books feel like they are contributing more to a more cohesive narrative to the entire Marvel Universe.

Though i am really happy that Northstar is going to be marrying his boyfriend and I'm definitely going to buy the comic where it happens

Marvel making such a strong pro lgbt statement and supporting same sex marriage makes me very happy and definitely gets a  from me

:csad:

Batwoman is the best comic book DC be publishing right now though hippie hunter

And Action Comics is fab right now too

Personally, I think Marvel's product has been better in a lot of cases too.

While, obviously, Bendis and Marvel's events are always ****, they have a ton of second-teir books that have incredible creative teams on them that have been cranking out great stories.

I feel like I can read second string characters like Venom or X-Factor and still expect a high level of quality in both writing and art. With DC, their entire line of second teir books have writers like Lobdell and Liefield and mediocre artists like Kirkham or Booth.

The concept of Northstar marrying his boyfriend is a rather good one. The ultimate problem about this is that it's ****ing Northstar. Nobody cares about Northstar. Most people have never even heard of Northstar except us uber-nerds. And even then, he's not worth this much promotion.

But even DC's lower tier books have had some great jems like Lemire's Frankenstein and Animal Man, Snyder's Swamp Thing, Fialkov's I, Vampire, DiDio's O.M.A.C., Robinson's the Shade, DnA's Resurrection Man, and Williams' Batwoman. But what puts DC on top in terms of quality IMO, is that DC's top tier books have overall been pretty effing good with the exceptions of the inconsistent Superman, the Michael Bay-esque Justice League (which has improved dramatically over the first arc), and Tony Daniel's Detective Comics.
