DC to "Rebirth" in June - Part 2

Constantine involved as well? Lordt...

DC sure as hell knows how to grab my attention.

Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo are pretty hit-or-miss with me. I feel like they take things to the extreme just to prove that comic books can be dark and for adults. Their Joker story is a prime example of that.

But...this new Batman thing they're working on does sound really cool. I wish it wasn't in the Black Label thing, where I know they're just going to do more of their "adulty" comic book thing that I roll my eyes at so often.

I agree 100% with everything you said.

I mean, the JOKER graphic novel isn't exactly in continuity either, but it probably would have been published under this Black Label banner had it existed then. So I'm not exactly sure what the complaint is. However, Azzarello lost me with his Killing Joke screenplay and Dark Knight 3 felt more like Azzarello than Miller. But I'm always down for Lee Bermejo. I wonder if his Justice League Dark teases on Instagram are a part of this project?

Anyways, I'm pretty much down for all of these titles, especially the Miller/Romita Jr. Superman book. It's been a nice long while since we've gotten a superhero comic written solely by Miller so that'll be cool. But I'm avoiding the Snyder book at all costs. It will likely be nothing but overwritten, overwrought, gratuitous nonsense drowning in self-importance.

Otherwise, I hope that these books are, for the most part, mature because they deal with heavier themes and are intelligent, rather than just more violent than usual superhero comics (which I fully expect from Snyder).

All due to respect to his early brilliant works, but Frank Miller could of died 20 years ago and the comic industry would of been better off for it. In what reality does anyone think he should ever be writing Superman, yet alone writing Superman in the current state of senile delusion which he's unfortunately still been allowed to make comics? With art from JRJR, no less? Ugh. The only reason to check this book out would be to hate-read it in hopes of the very real possibility it might be as bad as Neal Adams' Batman: Odyssey; another comic great who should of quit a long time ago because at this point he's become so awful I'm starting to question his early works.

I might be bitter tonight, but there are no lies in any of it.

What have you all thought of the "New Age of Heroes" titles?

I always get hyped for these special lines... But it's rare that they actually live up to the promise. Hoping for good things. Those WW and Batman images are fantastic.

Wow, that looks pretty cool.

From The Man of Steel #1 (Ivan Reis, the man who always draws an incredible Superman/everything):

With this mini having the Man of Steel title, I wonder if DC might sneak in a new collection for Byrne's series soon. Kind of surprised they didn't do one for the 30th anniversary in 2016.

They're definitely trying to evoke the Byrne series in some way-- on the image I posted a day or two ago, not only is it the same title, but the same logo. Perhaps signalling this is as big an effort/change as that series was? (Though the change part doesn't seem as likely since they're not rebooting this time).

I'd love a Byrne omni/deluxe. Same with Birthright... Though I'm not entirely surprised since both are on bad terms with DC.

Out of the New Age of Heroes line, Sideways is the one that interests me the most.

Looking forward to Action Comics #1000 and Brian Michael Bendis' run on Superman.

Sideways is readable. Not great but ok.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #1

Spinning out of the cataclysmic events of Dark Nights: Metal and the universe-defining No Justice, the core members of the Justice League–Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and more–are finally reunited!

The cosmos suddenly opens up to new threats that the Justice League could not imagine! As Lex Luthor and Batman race to solve a mystery going back to the beginning of the DCU, the rest of the League dive deep into new corners of their own mythologies!

One of the most critically acclaimed authors of his generation finally scribes DC’s flagship title in Justice League.

Okay, NOW they have my attention! It's taken long enough, but J'Onn is finally back where he belongs!

Has Jim Cheung done any DC stuff before this? His name means I'm gonna buy this. One of my favorite artists, ever since his Young Avengers stuff.

Based on his page on the DC site, his only DC credit so far has been a Flash book.

That line-up, though... :eek::up:
