You would literally being spended money on a useless piece of plasitic. Unlike console games, you don't need the disc in to play, and you couldn't play the game if it wasn't connected to the internet. The only thing the disc does is install the game onto your harddrive, and since you can install it for free from the internet, the disc is useless.

You underestimate my love for cases, maybe I'll just steel one from Gamestop just so I can put it in my collection!

Well I searched for it to download it but all I'm finding are the DLC packs. Is there a chance they took it off or is searching "DC Universe" or DC Universe Online" the wrong idea?

Technically, you can have *four* character slots for free. You just create two per server. That's what I did, especially considering that, at least for awhile there, DCUO tended to be an "either-or" option -- either the EU server was online, or the American one was, but rarely both at the same time.

Oh sweet! Didn't know about that!

You can find it in the PS Store under PS3 Games which then is under PS3 Full Games then Full Games A-L.

Awesome thanks for the help again, downloading it now.

I just got the base game and all. Spent a good long time looking through all the different options for characters.

Don't get too hung up on your initial outfit. You'll be getting new gear pretty quickly. :yay:

I often kept the look of my original outfit even after getting better gear

Me too, I like to have a story to each of my characters. There are some who I don't have the desired look yet though.

Did you know that Sony Online Entertainment is on its fifth DLC pack for DC Universe Online? The firm released a blurb earlier today highlighting the Hand of Fate update that's coming your way in September.

Would-be superheroes can look forward to new utility belt attachments, new operations, new side missions, and magic-powered Legends PvP avatars. "We want to provide players with unique hero and villain experiences that immerse them in the most iconic DC Comics locations: Gotham City and Metropolis. What we hope players find in this DLC are emergent game play moments that challenge and reinvigorate them in the open world," explains DCUO creative director Jens Andersen.

Hand of Fate will be free for Legendary members and available for purchase via the in-game store and PlayStation marketplace for Premium and Free players.

so...I'm downloading from my PS3...I'm at about 16-17%...its been about two and a half hours......

...when I purchased my PS3 back in November this was the first thing I tried downloading...now remember why I gave up...

but I'm gonna try to stick it through...

Are there any character/power suggestions for a first time player?

I downloaded in a couple days ago, I started it then started playing on my 360 then went to work. By the time I got home it was done. just do other things to make the time pass, don't just sit there staring at it.

Well than, I'll sell you mine. It's for the PC, but that really doesn't matter.

Man, I really hope so. It just takes way too long to earn those Marks. Maybe it wouldn't be such a pain in the ass, if the DUOs wouldn't lock for the day after you played them. I could play the City Hall Mission with Sinestro over and over again, because I enjoy the Lantern Battles so much.

This will make you happy.

After spending years on WoW, I've decided to give DC Universe Online a chance!
Any tips for a new player with plenty of exp in MMOs?
Like which servers are the best, what should I consider when making my character, which servers are the people of this forum mostly playing in and etc...

How does the purchasing of DLC's handled and what are the best options. I'm not sure I'm gonna like it but still I'm willing to give it a fair chance.

My first tip for a new player with plenty of experience in MMOs is forget everything you know about MMOs.

Seriously though, I don't play MMOs so it's hard for me to compare, but I've seen other people refer to this as playing more like and action game with MMORPG elements. I've play free trials of WoW and Old Republic, and I think this game handles movement and combat better. I also think the story is handled better. In other games they start you off wth quests like "Go kill 15 rats". This game, right off the bat, you're fighting your way off Brainiac's ship (reprised by Cory Burton from the cartoons), and are given missions that lead you to fighting iconic characters.

As for servers, there isn't very many options. US or EU. I think US is more populated (I'm in US), but the economy is messed up so some things on the auction house run from thousands to millions of dollars. You don't need to worry about that starting off though. You can switch between PVP and PVE anytime you want. Starting off, I'd suggest PVE so you aren't continuously killed while running open world missions.

DLC's, I'm not sure how the are handled in other games, so again I can't compare. Most DLC"s come with an extra power (the newest one comes with an extra weapon) but other than that you wouldn't even play the content it contains for a while.

Thanks. I don't plan on comparing it to WoW or any other MMO.
I'm will probably join a PvP server cause I'm a PvP junkie and I love unexpected fights :)
As soon as I start and play a bit I will report back here :)

DC Universe Online's update 18 goes live

If you're hoping for a bunch of new content with the latest update to DC Universe Online, you'll be disappointed. If you're hoping for a better system of player rewards and more challenging encounters, you'll be quite pleased. Game Update 18 ushers in several changes to the game's challenges, alerts, and duos, providing players with both a smoother set of progression content and a more unified system of rewards.

Aside from reorganizing several pieces of group content into clearer progression tiers, the update unifies reward currencies into Marks of Triumph. Reward items are all purchased via Marks of Triumph, with higher-tier items requiring a correspondingly larger number of Marks. Players will also receive a weekly award box the first time they clear a Tier 1 through 3 challenge within a week; these award boxes contain both Marks of Triumph and a random level-appropriate item. For more details on the particulars of these revisions, take a look at the full update list, or just log in and start playing.

DC Universe Online is getting ready for its fifth DLC pack, Hand of Fate. Along with utility belt attachments, new operations in the open areas of Gotham City and Metropolis, and new side quests, Hand of Fate will be bringing Doctor Fate and Felix Faust to Legends PvP. These inimitable fellows will bring sorcery to the Legends PvP character pool, and change things up with the ability to summon pets and minions. While not quite so offensively aggressive as other characters, these characters focus on a control-based, tactical approach to gameplay.

Skip below the cut to get a shiny video introduction to heroic Doctor Fate and nefarious Felix Faust.

What is best, PVP or PVE?

If you mean what is more fun, it depends on what you like. I like PVE the best because I like running through the story. Some people like fighting other people.

If you mean what server is the best, I'd say PVE because you can go through your missions without being ganked by other players. Again, some masochist like that, though.

I like occasional fights. So guys I'm now proudly level 7 or 8 with my girl I'm getting clueless. I can't find a league and most of the people on my server PvP are really not responsive. Did I chose the wrong server? I mean I'm trying to speak to people and find some cool people but so far I've been unlucky! Is there PvE at the PvP server at all? I kinda want both PvP and PvE so I will be really disappointed if that's not the case :(

I tried Legends PvP. It's fun although quite confusing. I have no idea what I'm doing with my Robin avatar and I have no idea how to check his abilities. F1 lists the mouse clicking combos but I have no idea what the abilities on my bar really do.

I don't hang out on PVP so I don't know how the people are. People talk on the PVE server though. You can switch from PVP server to PVE server in the watchtower or hall of doom. It's in the center of the WT, I forget where in the HOD.

You can't check abilities. I'll have to look that up online. You can mess around with the sparring dummy before the match begins to see what the abilities are and there is a combat tab on the chat box that will tell you how much damage they do.

Go to the DCUO message boards to help you find a league.

No, you can do it as many times as you want. Actually, it's not a separate server, it's just a different phase of the same server.
