Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 News and Discussion

Usually, studios like to release sequels around the same month/weekend as the original film. It's going to have a LOT of summer films competing for money, and the week following the Han Solo solo film... well, it is counter programming.

What also happens is that if a movie is successful, its sequel gets 'promoted' to the summer blockbuster season.

It happened with 22 Jump Street (released in June, while the first one bowed out in March), which went on to gross $191m domestic and $139m int'l for a total of $331m worldwide (against 21 Jump Street's $138m+$63m=$201m).

And Deadpool wasn't just successful, it was a juggernaut. So I figured that the sequel could easily become Fox's big summer 2018 tentpole. And so it is.

There are lots of people who skipped Deadpool in theaters and found out about it on home video. If the trailers for Deadpool 2 won't be underwhelming I can see it getting LOTS of momentum next summer.

The character is now tentpole material. The original made fraggin' $783m worldwide last year. We're not talking about a small underdog project anymore.

GOTG2 and kingsman 2 open in different months and no freakout.
but DP2 opens in a different month and ppl panicking ....

OT: Kingsman almost made a big mistake opening in June 2017. Remember that got moved to September which doesn't have any major competition

Guardians being moved to May is a good point but there also there isn't much competition during that month until the end.

Again, no one is saying DP2 will flop. It's just a dumb move`

Well its obvious that Fox has more confidence with Deadpool 2 being released in a crowded summer movie season, than New Mutants and Dark Phoenix.

Can't compare Kingsman to Deadpool. Just look at the numbers.

Deadpool made Marvel Studios numbers with an R-rating and no release in China.

They're obviously confident enough to make this a summer "event" film. Hopefully that doesn't mean it's watered down...

But I think there is enough good will and anticipation for Deadpool 2.

It is also important to point out that Star Wars has yet to face actual competition, so we have no idea what will happen.

So according to CB.com, Deadpool 2's production has been pushed back by a week.

Very interested to know who the baddies are in this. It will probably be Z-list characters that will require Wikipedia for further research, kinda like half the characters in the first film. Using z-list characters in a good thing for now.

I hope it's someone like Black Tom, Slayback or T-Ray.

It's really early for a post credit reveal and I'm not sure if that site has much, if any credibility.

But If true, kinda disappointing imo. Just not much of a fan of those characters especially when there are stronger choices to choose from. But hey they made NTW cool.

Also isn't
Sunspot confirmed for New Mutants?

"Sources tell..." Yeah, okay. We shall see. In the meantime, the crew, particularly Reese and Wernick, have been pretty open in the past about whether news is true or false, so we shall see.

I'm skeptical of Sunspot. To me, Thunderbird would make more sense. I'd love to see a fairly faithful adaptation of the original X-Force team, I'd just imagine that incorporating Deadpool's crew is going to make that nearly impossible.

ETA: James Proudstar is Warpath, not Thunderbird, isn't he? My bad.

I don't get it. Sunspot is already announced for New Mutants. And don't even tell me that they will cast a third actor for Sunspot.

This franchise doesn't plan (or at least cast) that far ahead to begin with. Even the Deadpool guys, who are building towards something bigger, are taking it more on a film by film basis. Makes sense this would false in addition to the redundant team members.

Figured. Yeah, Mangold and Reese are pretty good at stomping out any rumors that start circulating.

Cable needs bigger muscles than that!

The original Thunderbird is John Proudstar, who is set to debut in that new Fox show. While you aren't wrong as James Proudstar aka Warpath was originally called as Thunderbird as well.

What was his name when he joined X-Force? I'm reading it right now so I should know that. Regardless, I mean James, not John.

I've thought about different ideas of one to one comparisons. I think the obvious was replacing Cannonball with Negasonic Teenage Warhead. I previously suggested replacing James Proudstar with Colossus. The biggest issue is Deadpool. His use of swords would make him a natural replacement for Shatterstar, but Shatterstar is such a delightfully weird character that I'm not sure I want to do that.

Cable is coming!

I really love how he keeps hashtagging his Cable posts with #ryanreynoldsismyb**** . Can't wait to see their relationship unfold on screen. But man, seeing how hard Brolin is working and dieting, only makes me appreciate Hugh Jackman and the specimen he is even more. Brolin is in good shape as is and he's doing like what, 3 months of bodybuilding for Cable? Hugh did 6 months and they're only a year apart in age. Brolin definitely has his work cut out for him as he goes into his 50s.
