Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 1

With all the good reaction this is getting, I would be shocked if it isn't "leaked" online sometime soon. I mean, the internet is pretty much what got the movie made.

It is. But it's not like they're marketing it exclusively to the Internet folks now, otherwise the movie wouldn't make a dime. Internet fans are much less than we always think.

They're market it towards the general audience, as they should, and will probably release a trailer which has a wider range. The general audience could care less about "F*** Liefeld." That was for the fans. This trailer was for the fans. But officially, they gotta think bigger. Which is why I don't think this will be officially released.

You may be right. The main trailers will likely not have as much Fanservice so as to sell it to GA but as of now the fan community know the level of Fanservice the final will have so that's not a concern.

Exactly, which is why the trailer's perfect for Comic Con. It's aimed to the Comic Con crowd. Now that the fans are psyched (they are even without a HD version of this trailer), they can and will most probably take care of the general audience.

Marketing is a pretty delicate affair. You gotta have the right impact on the GA right from the beginning. If the first thing they see from the "Deadpool" is a lot of jokes geared towards the die hard fans, many will probably not be interested.

I hope Deadpool randomly looks like he has boobs in one scene to poke fun at Rob's drawing style. That would over the general audience's head though.....

You can't really make it out from the footage, but is it just my impression that Deadpool's eyes are going to be animated just whenever he's breaking the fourth wall? Wouldn't be a bad solution, actually. They did use both the full mask and 'sensor mask' on set.

The most boring part of the trailer was when it turned into a scene from Origins. It seemed like your standard superhero generic drama. Let's hope they avoid that for the main audience and sell this as the 4th wall breaking irreverent movie it should be.

I was mildly excited for this movie, but the trailer kind of killed it for me. The jokes were not funny at all and seemed kind of forced.

I disagree.

He says hi to Liefeld... Cause he's in the scene.

I think he says "Buck... Liefeld!"

There was only one joke I didn't like but the rest was brilliant, easily my favorite trailer showed at SDCC

From Reynolds' Twitter:

As much as I want the #deadpool footage from #SDCC officially released, the VFX shots aren't done yet. We have something for you in 3 weeks.

Woo!

Perfect! Now that we got this down, need to know when they will release Suicide Squad Trailer.

I think in the back of their minds they know this probably won't get a sequel, so they just went all out. That's refreshing in a world where so many things are saved for sequels and it's all about the future, not the here and now.

:applaud:up:

Agreed. You probably only get one shot at a Deadpool movie so make it count. Do the movie you want to make and if that's all we get, fine. Much better than a series of sequels that the public loves but DP fans wish were better.

The trailer was really good. Especially the Deadpool parts. Ryan was on point with the character.

So I did hear Liefeld's name. I knew I wasn't imagining it

And see, that's how you handle these things, not DC's "We're taking our ball and going home." Reynolds is fine that it leaked, promises something better official with quality soon, explains why they aren't just releasing this now, and gives a time table for when it'll be released.

To be fair, Suicide Squad comes out 6 months after Deadpool.

Exactly. Making a good marketing campaign is complex and needs lots of thought and planning. "Suicide Squad" is still filming and will be released in more than a year. We'll get our first trailer whenever the studio is ready to start the campaign. We guys on the web need to be a little less egoistic and understand that it's not just about us. That footage was raw and unfinished, and clearly put together for guys like me and you who are familiar with the characters and the concept of the movie. "Suicide Squad" has $100+ million budget and they're not making that back just by making online fans happy. Be patient. Everything will be online at the right time.

Man, in addition to the film this is gonna be a great friggin year for Deadpool....

Joe Kelly is writing a Deadpool/Spider-Man team up this fall with Ed Mcguinnness! and Duggan is returning to the main solo series! Plus it looks like he's part of Duggans Uncanny Avengers and we have Deadpool vs Thanos by Tim Seele as well. Doesn't get much better then this for us Deadpool fans. :woo:

Yup, definitely excited about Duggan returning to the "Deadpool" series, and Joe Kelly writing "Deadpool/Spider-Man". Don't really care about the Thanos one.

But ever since Marvel relaunched the character with Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn as the creative team it's been a great time for Deadpool fans. I'm so glad the Daniel Way era is over. And I'm glad that the movie won't feature his take on the character.
