Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 1

A part of me thinks it might get pushed back a couple of months.

*knocks on wood*

Nah, that wouldn't be good with the way next year looks. It's in a solid position being the first CB movie of the year and wom is good so far. Fox should be feeling confident.

The flicks been shooting for a month and a half. I don't see why this film would need over a 3 month shooting period. They will have plenty of time in post. and as mentioned, this is a 50m movie not a 150m one.

February isn't the greatest time for the movie, but mid-March is BvS which would cut it down like a buzzsaw. Given the low budget, it's not at all that bad of a time.

Fox has had luck in that month, most recently with Kingsman.

Ghost Rider and Daredevil opened solid as well.

Yeah, this is more than fine..

They'll probably be finished shooting by July. That gives it 7 months in post. Plenty of time considering there won't be as much SFX compared to your standard superhero film.

I just wanna see the mutant side of Vanessa! Shes my most anticipated character after Colossus!

Kingsman just did great with the same release date. Blockbuster money, no. But it just crossed the threshhold for making 5 times its budget. Add in that Deadpool is a bit more well known, and they should be making plenty of money by the time BvS comes out.

Assuming that the movie is quality, of course. But, I have faith.

The new Alex Proayas film (which has a high budget) with Gerard Butler and Chad Bosemen moved out of the Feb 12th spot.

Gonna pretty much be Deadpool vs Zoolander now.

Thing is, Kingsman had that whole fascination of seeing Colin Firth playing a bad ass superspy. A lot of people were interested just because of that.

Deadpool doesn't have that star name attached to it.

Ryan Reynolds isn't box office gold, but he is still a star name.

I also don't think it'll do as well as Kingsmen (which was a surprise success), but I wouldn't count it out either.

Don't think Colin Firth films exactly rake in the cash based in his name. Or that his dramatic or romantic comedy audience was the main draw for Kingsman. The film looked fun above all else.

The main sell for Deadpool will be that it's an action packed Marvel movie with humor. We know that plays well. With Kingsman's success playing off action/humor and an R rating as well, then Deadpool really shouldn't have issues.

WOM played a big part in Kingsmans success also, it didn't open to huge numbers as far as I remember, but it's still earning money at the BO now because the word of mouth was so good.

Huh I wasnt aware of that. If star power was a factor for its success, SLJ had more to do with it than Colin Firth.

I'm not saying Firth is a star. I'm saying there was a fascination in seeing Mr Darcy playing a bad ass superspy. I know for certain that my girlfriends mum only saw it because of that. Wouldn't surprise me if quite a few older women went to see it.

I dont think there was. Imo, despite his Oscar win, Colin Firth was never a box office good luck charm. Imo, the quality of the film was a big factor and there werent a lot of good action flicks before Furious 7 came out.

$36 million for an R-rated film in Febuary, against the obvious box competition, is pretty damned good. And the competition is going to be weaker next year. Comedy sequels that are 10+ years in the making do not do well.

We aren't talking massive box office numbers here. But, if they keep the tone of the demo, then it could have some good legs.

This movie will prove to studios that R rating doesn't always have to be a bad thing.
This movie will show them that the most important thing is having a kickass movie and the rest will come. I expect Deadpool to at least make 250m ww which is more than enough. Wouldn't be surprised if it makes more. It's a very original superhero film and FUNNY and ENTERTAINING.

I think Kingsman proved that for Fox...

I think Kingsman did that. While I'm sure the production was pushing for it, I'm pretty certain that Kingsman gave Fox the confidence to actually approve the R-rating.

no offense to anyone but we have seen no footage so far, cant tell if this is potentially a good film until we at least see "something"

of course I hope this is a good movie :)
