Yean an interesting weekend ahead for it as it does have a bit of competition this weekend with another R rated film in Alien Romulus out, its been holding really strong though even on weekdays and even picking up internationally so should be past $1.1B over the weekend easily now! Insane.Looking forward to seeing where it’s at by the end of this weekend. This thing has still got momentum and WOM trickling through.
Romulus is so different from it still that the R rating isn’t enough to cut into it too much. Regardless of whatever else Deadpool has going on it’s overall a comedy with good action and a bit of heart while Romulus In assuming is typical Alien sci-fi horror. I’ll also be interested in the weekdays/weekend after this weekend as this could be the moment when the big numbers and key momentum finally start slowing unless WOM really is super-strong.Yean an interesting weekend ahead for it as it does have a bit of competition this weekend with another R rated film in Alien Romulus out, its been holding really strong though even on weekdays and even picking up internationally so should be past $1.1B over the weekend easily now! Only thing I’d bear in mind is that Jackman himself didn’t take other films (especially his solos) to mega numbers for the most part. He’s a great catalyst though when put amongst the right characters. Deadpool and the MCU are both unique amplification vehicles for when something hits right. This result is why Hugh Jackman is 100% playing this role until he is 90. I think there is a good chance Wolverine becomes our new Tony Stark who is in at least 1 movie a year. These are numbers they haven't been scoring outside of Spider-Man recently, and Spider-Man is held back by the Sony arrangement.
Time to dethrone Joker, let's ****in' GOOOOOOOOOO
Yes, but clearly the popularity exploded here. I think they're going to want to build off that. It's the most momentum with a new possible MCU lead they've had really since T'Challa, and 100% would be the new anchor character if Boseman was still with us. But alas, that is what it is. There has been a void at the center of the MCU since that happened. With the next phase being mutant focused and Wolverine legendarily being on like....100 teams at once, I see that happening here.Only thing I’d bear in mind is that Jackman himself didn’t take other films (especially his solos) to mega numbers for the most part. I think they'll keep Jackman coming back at least in cameos as Old Man Logan, but I think they'll also have a new Wolverine for the next 20/30 years too. Jackman's commented before about how difficult it is with age getting into the same shape for the role, and unlike Evans who has a strong preference to not stay in Cap 1 shape any longer than needed, it feels like Jackman has too much pride to turn up as Logan without giving his all physically. I think they'll work out a deal to have him keep coming back but some of the roles will be much smaller, and there will be a young Wolverine to take up a big part of the workload.Yes, but clearly the popularity exploded here. Yeah. These are characters that can explode in the MCU backdrop, but they aren't going to do the same in Sony's universe, even if they were twice as popular as actors and characters. Actually unless they go the Venom trashy route.Even RDJ didn't get his first billion dollar film until after he'd been in a crossover. Crossovers are what really pumps the blood through the MCU circulatory system. This is the first time Hugh's gotten a hit of it.
Very true but I expect DP&W will lose a few screens because of it and just the natural time its been out now and will slow down no doubt naturally.Romulus is so different from it still that the R rating isn’t enough to cut into it too much. I dont think we are getting a new Wolverine. We just got RDJ as Doctor Doom and Jackman just helped make them the highest grossing R rated movie. They are going to double down on it. I think 3 years ago we would have gotten a new Wolverine. Now, I think that way of doing things is stone cold dead.I think they'll keep Jackman coming back at least in cameos as Old Man Logan, but I think they'll also have a new Wolverine for the next 20/30 years too. Going to be interesting to see how things play out now, I dont think many were predicting this level of success but what Disney want and what Mr Jackman want might be two different things, does he want to be a smaller part in the bigger movies or not, does he only want to work with Ryan again. I just don't think a MCU Jackman X-Men film is going to differentiate sufficiently from what came before given he was the main appeal in the Fox era of the past couple of decades and it never hit big while he was at his peak. He also doesn't have anyone like Deadpool to play off to the same comedic level to achieve that magic in X-films. D&W are a perfect contrast buddy cop duo and they are both weaker without the other and especially outside the MCU. I can see D&W itself continuing for as long as it makes money though and being the piss-take vehicle for the MCU.I dont think we are getting a new Wolverine. I would also argue Iron Man was a billion dollar character until Avengers and then that changed. So I don't think the Fox era not achieving that really matters cause that glass ceiling clearly brokeI just don't think a MCU Jackman X-Men film is going to differentiate sufficiently from what came before given he was the main appeal in the Fox era of the past couple of decades and it never hit big while he was at his peak. Obviously if Hugh doesn't want to he won't. But Feige and co are already sending a message that we are not getting a new Wolverine anytime soon. Intentional messaging IMOGoing to be interesting to see how things play out now, I dont think many were predicting this level of success but what Disney want and what Mr Jackman want might be two different things, does he want to be a smaller part in the bigger movies or not, does he only want to work with Ryan again. Yeah its very clear where Disney stand on this and there will be plenty of fans clambering for more from the pair of them after this. The question will get asked a lot until it happens anyway.Obviously if Hugh doesn't want to he won't. They're not going to have competing Wolverine's. Feige has also gone on record that they're not going to recast the role. Jackman is it.
I think this is the interview that articles are referencing.Wait Feige said that?! As in for sure not going to cast a new Wolverine?!

Next is Marvel Studios/Disney’s fourth weekend of Deadpool & Wolverine at 3,960 locations with $27M-$29M after a $8.5M Friday. At the high end, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman pic could clear $545.7M by Sunday.
Sounds like a very good dom hold yet again if those estimates turn out to be accurate. IW & EG were around the $29m mark for 4th weekend.Deadline early dom estimate:
