well sometimes promos take things out of context to hype them up, lol. I've been caught off guard more than once.

Definitely not out of the range of possibility.

The promo for last week's True Blood (so the promo from two weeks ago) for instance looked like [blackout]Sookie could become a vampire[/blackout] to explain something but it wasn't true outside of the proper context.

That could be it here too. It looks like one thing or maybe it does happen but by the end of the episode it has changed again so it no longer is true.

Dexter Promos have been pulling the rung out from under us of good-great upcoming shows since s3... why would they show us what would actually happen next? We wouldn't come back...

Dexter is in the midst of its final season right now, with Mr. Morgan's story winding down. But could the world of Dexter continue? A couple months back, there was some talk about the potential for a spinoff for the series, but nothing has been said about it recently.
Today, at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, Showtime's president David Nevins announced that Dexter's showrunner, Scott Buck, had signed a new overall deal, to develop new projects for them. Later, I asked Nevins if the Dexter spinoff was still in play, expecting him to say no.
Nevins answer was quite brief, but also pretty notable, as he replied, "Of course. We announced a new deal with Scott Buck today. Draw your own conclusions."
Well, now we will! A Dexter spinoff is a bit of a tough one to consider, since most of the supporting characters aren't exactly shouting to become the focus. But now that we know it still might happen, who would you want to see it focus on? Back in May, Matt Fowler pondered the possibilities and the last one he listed is still the one we think has the most promise...

God, if this kid becomes Dexter 2.0.......... I'll never watch a show on Showtime again.

I don't know that I would be jumping on to it as well. Dex is one of a kind, you can't replace him with someone else.

A spinoff with Dex Jr. is of no interest to me. What's worse is that I am afraid they will use the remaining episodes to set that up, instead of giving Dexter his proper farewell.

After watching this week's episode, the wife and I both said that it would have made a fitting finale.

Dex got over his issues with family, had the new "family" participate in defeating the main villain and then went off on their boat to relax and celebrate. I thought the only way to finish the show was for him to get caught or killed, but this was actually better. The whole premise this season was that he is the perfect machine, so it's only fitting that the perfect machine wouldn't get caught.

With this spinoff news, I'm afraid I will have to treat this episode as the actual finale.
