Horror Dexter - Part 6

Ow owwieeee ouch OW

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the writer's room when some genius came up with that scene. "Yes, this is why people tune into Dexter!"

"Guys how can we make it so Hannah puts herself at risk?"

"I'VE GOT IT! Have Harrison busts his ass on that goddamn treadmill everyone hates. Mr. Buck I'll call a 35 year old stunt double."

When they were plotting out the debacle that season 8 would become, some people in the room must have realized how dumb it sounded and kept their mouths shut out of fear of losing their jobs. There's no way everyone left that writer's retreat (or whatever opium den they dreamed this up) feeling satisfied.

As far as Harrison knows his father died in the hurricane and he's got Hannah as a mother to help him so he's not that bad off. Could be worse, could be better but he's not too far off from where he was when Dexter was still alive to him.

No. This just shows how badly written the season and the finale were. So dexter is claimed dead in the papers, deb is dead. And Hannah is still a fugitive. Hmmmmm wouldn't Harrison's grandparents aka Rita's parents be wondering now where their grandson is? They'd have to hear about dexters "death" and debs. So seeing as they are his family they'd be looking for him. But he's In another country with a fugitive pretending to be his mommy. Yeah you're right he's not that bad off. Give me a ****ing break :whatever: my god what this show became.

Him dying wouldn't have changed how awful the ending was

True, the moment they ditched the older kids they forgot about them and the grandparents and it slipped my mind they even existed anymore.

same reason bat fans *****ed when the possibility of killing batman in tdkr came up

A near-mythological superhero (and one of the most iconic characters in all of pop culture) whose mythology spans over 70 years is a liiiiiittle different than a lovable serial killer whose story spanned 8 seasons of television. I doubt many Dexter fans would have "*****ed" if Dexter died in the finale. Sure as hell would have made more sense than him miraculously surviving the hurricane he rode into.

I for one was game for whatever the writers threw at me. EXCEPT for what they actually threw at me.

Yeah, I feel more positive than ever now that Dexter will come back. I think in about 3-4 years we'll start hearing rumors of a movie or miniseries and the Dexter universe will make some sort of comeback ala 24. I felt that way after the ending, and just hearing Michael C. Hall not give a definitive "no" combined with the news that Showtime wasn't going to allow him to die makes me even more suspicious that we haven't seen the last of Dexter.

Jeer at the thought of it now, but if this actually happens in like 5 years people will be excited. We all know 24 didn't exactly end on such a high note but that hasn't stopped Live Another Day from generating some positive buzz and excitement from the fanbase.

Michael C. Hall should stay as far away from Dexter as possible from this point on. I honestly doubt he will ever return, unless it's for a cast reunion interview special or something.

He should stay away for the time being, like he said, to put some distance between himself and the role. Career-wise it wouldn't be a bad move if he waited long enough and the right circumstances with the right writers and the right ideas presented themselves. I don't see his film career taking off in the meantime, sadly, but I hope I'm wrong.

I imagine MCH is well aware of the dip in quality this season, as well as the fact that the series didn't end with a bang, but a pathetic whimper.

Really, what is left for a movie or mini-series to focus on with the way things ended in the anti-climactic finale? What would even make sense for the story to be about?

MCH was an EP for the past few seasons. He is most certainly aware of the dip in quality, and I'd go so far as to claim that it probably didn't bother him so long as he was getting paid.

They can be lame and bring Dexter back if they want, but I won't be watching it. Any good will I had was reduced to ashes by the end of season 8. There' no way to right a ship that's already rusting at the bottom of the ocean.

I'm incredibly skeptical of there ever being another version of it anyway. The ending was received so poorly and it's already in the dirt and cold as far as pop culture is concerned. They didn't even get a victory lap. Everyone vanished into the ether just as it ended, I will presume, out of embarrassment.

All the more reason to want to redeem it in the future, considering that no matter what he does from here on, it'll always be the role he's most remembered for.

Putting on my fan fiction cap for a second, in my fantasy scenario...it would be from Batista and Quinn's POV, where we see them finally start piecing things together, and realizing that Dexter's death was most likely faked, either in light of new evidence or simply re-examining all the information that they already have (which is plenty enough to be suspicious of Dexter). The personal stakes would be huge for both since he's to blame for Laguerta's death and essentially for Deb's as well. I'd want to see the "no Dexter voiceover" thing continue so that he's no longer the protagonist of the story, more like the Hannibal Lecter. Where it goes from there I have no idea, but I think it could be a cool launching off point.

I figure, they ended on a note of Dexter being a monster and they left all the good guys who we had grown to love with no closure. So I say, let Dex be the monster and let the good guys be the good guys, and see what happens. Fun to daydream about anyway. Anything is possible with enough creativity. I bet there are tons of great writers out there who'd be chomping at the bit to put their stamp on it and continue the story.

Again, see 24. Dexter's finale was the highest rated Showtime broadcast ever too, reception or not. Showtime still sees dollar signs there.

I think it depends on whether Hall goes onto another long running show or not.
