The more I think about the finale, the less I'm impressed with it. My wife was giving me grief about that this morning.

Hell, I'm just happy
that they didn't rip on Sons of Anarchy and have Trinity take baby Harry and hide him some where. But overall, a lot of people got their wish if they wanted Rita dead. I know my wife was happy to see her dead for the heavy handed annoying way they wrote her character for the last 2 seasons.

When was the decision made to kill off Rita?
CLYDE PHILLIPS:
I would say we made the decision pretty late in the season. We didn’t quite know what we were going to do [in the finale].

Hey,we have no good ideas let's kill Rita and shock everyone!!

Yes and let's have 10 plot holes in the last 10 minutes but make the ending so shocking no one would bother to explain them!

So obvious, color me extremely disappointed :whatever::whatever:

I can't stop thinking about how scared Rita must of been. I can imagine her voice telling Harrison to close his eyes just like Dexters mom told him . It's so haunting :csad:

What were the '10' plot holes? There was one coincidence (that Rita came back home the same time Arthur found Dexter's actual house), I can't think of any plot holes.

How did Dexter catch up to Trinity when the car broke down?

2 options,both silly

1)He was following him and Trinity didn't see him even though there wasn't a single car on the road.

2)He was in the trunk...how then did he carried the body when the Mustang was broke?

Why did Dexter received his message exactly when he came home? The message was sent obviously hours prior to that.If he did he would've come home instantly or call her find an excuse to stop her coming home and with that save her.

Why didn't Trinity's family spoke about Dexter...you know the creepy guy who took a knife to kill their father/husband,was with them 2 minutes before they were taken by the police and escaped like a ninja.

How did Dexter know where the car would broke down? What if the car broke down sooner? In the city among people?

How did Trinity found out where Dexter lives? He searched and found his apartment where Deb lives...he has never heard of Rita and the address is at her name so how exactly did he found out where?

And of course the obviously forced Rita comeback exactly at the time when Trinity was at their home.

the timeline is never explained... i assume after trinity looks at debs house, he keeps looking for dexter, and finds his house... stakes the place out... Rita comes home, he takes her out, dexter is all over the place trying to find him. after he kills rita, he goes and gets his car, where dexter follows him.... i assume trinity makes a pit stop, and dexter messes with his car so it will break down a couple miles away... hides in the trunk...

whats getting me is if the car was broken down, how did dexter get him back his car? i know hes strong, but carrying a 6 ft four 240 lb guy for a couple miles seems ...unlikely.

as the phone situation, dexter turns his phone off...but then again u never see him turn it on....im thinking this bc of last seasons little rita in the hospital thing...

but ur correct...theres some holes here...

what gets me curious is....they say this decision to kill Rita was last minute...but..uh...how many times has lithgow said hes known the ending the whole time?

-Following with his lights off, it was dark and foggy and wouldn't have been hard to stay behind the only other car on the road and still keep an eye on him. Arthur didn't notice a speeding crazy car behind him earlier in the episode.

-He probably turned his phone off, and then turned it on when he got home, thus the message arriving while he was there.

-They were whisked away at gunpoint into a cop car. Did you want them to immediately yell at the cops that there was another man who ran away? They were in shock. I'm sure Kyle Butler will come up next season.

-I assume Dexter followed him until Arthur made a pit stop on the highway somewhere and tampered with the car then. So he's out of the city.

-How do you know the house is in Rita's name? They did move when they got married, why would Dexter not be listed as an owner for the house he pays for? Arthur found the first apartment by 1 google search, a few more probably gave him the other address.

Same way Dexter knew that Brian would break into his apartment and try to kill Deb in the season 1 finale, or how he tracked whats her name down in Paris, it's a tv show. I assume Dexter followed him until Arthur made a pit stop on the highway somewhere and tampered with the car then. Thus he's out of the city.

Dexter never turns his phone off and now just for this episode he conveniently does so.

The fact that's it's a tv show doesn't mean it's not a plot hole...there's no way he could know such a thing.Such a cerebral guy who has decided to end it by all means won't leave it to such a head/tail chance.

Plus it makes Arthur,a brilliant, bold, cunning killer who hasn't been caught in 30 years, who went directly in to the police station without a ounce of doubt of getting caught an idiot...an utter idiot. The fact that he didn't notice the following car at the beginning make him even more.

And i don't know how things work in America but if anyone can type a name on google and find whatever they want about someone, address, etc ...it's beyond ridiculous.A Forensic expert/policeman i can buy...an ordinary citizen? No.I refuse to believe such a nonsense.

Arthur's never been portrayed as a bold or brilliant killer. He's been portrayed as an incredible impulsive, emotionally unstable killer. The only reason he's gotten away with it for so long is because the FBI dropped the ball as they admitted.

And actually, you can find someone's address by typing their name in on Google.

I know it's not you really, but I love how you guys read what you want into something. He never said it was a last minute decision. He said they finally decided later in the season. They probably had 3-4 possible outcomes and scenarios and decided to go with the one they showed. Jesus, it wasn't a "Oh man, we need a twist and we're 2 days from wrapping! type thing.

- This was a serious kill for Dexter. It's not ridiculous that he wouldn't want Rita calling during it.

- He tampered with it after Arthur left the city. I don't see what's so hard to get. Arthur has to pee at some point.

- He didn't notice the earlier car. So it's not a plot hole that he wouldn't notice the later one. Dexter has followed him in other episodes.

- If Dexter Morgan's address is listed in the phonebook, you can find his address online. Arthur was also inside of Deb's apartment, he could have searched it for some kind of hint to Dexter's real address.

Hell, Dexter followed him unnoticed earlier in this very episode.

While he was swerving and smashing off side view mirrors, no less. Trinity has never had to deal with someone 'on his tail' before and Dexter is on someone's tail all the time.

Wow. This season was amazing. Puts the bar pretty high for the next one.

Indeed. Its going to be very difficult to top Lithgow. The only way I can see it done is to get a character who surpasses Trinity. I've always thought the Doctor Danko character from the books (who leaves people alive but amputates their arms, legs, eye lids, nose, tounge, ears, lips, and gentiles) would be a bit too extreme for the show, but I think he's the only way to surpass Trinity and take it to the next level. Plus someone who operates on that level, a monster who makes Trinity look like small beans might be exactly what Dex needs to get back in his groove.

Either that or cast Robin Williams. Anyone who has seen Insomnia or One Hour Photo knows what a great villain he can make. Though that might be too close to Lithgow.

Exactly. Kargo is acting like Trinity is this brilliant counterpart to Dexter, but he's really not. He's the polar opposite of Dexter. He lacks any kind of cunning, brilliance, or awareness of the world around him. THroughout the season I was waiting for Trinity to reveal that he's been on to "Kyle Butler," the whole time but in retrospect, I realize he never did because Trinity is not a hunter like Dexter. He is just an animal. The only reason he evaded capture so long is because the FBI denied his exisitence. The second Lundy's hands were untied by FBI protocol he was incredibly close to catching Trinity. Trinity wasn't brilliant or elusive. He was lucky.

Yeah, I think there needs to be a villain that doesn't have any aspects that Dexter aspires for or wants to learn or whatever. Just someone who is such a monster that Dexter has to take them down.

I also think another vigilante murderer like Dexter might be an interesting element to throw in at some point.

Wow.......just wow. I thought it seemed like a typical Dexter season finale up until, well, you know!

I agree. At the very least, next years villian should be from the other end of the spectrum than Arthur, a young killer that is just getting started.

But we had that with Prado and Dexter has already learned he is not capable of guiding another man's dark passenger.

I think Danko would be a good way to go. A total monster who repulses even Dexter.

This season was pretty weak in hindsight, they spread the story way too thin. =/ Every season after the 1st has had a rushed ending but this one is the worst offender, bLAh!

Lithgow's performance was still amazing though, makes you wonder how mentally stable he is. =P

crazy thing is, Arthur didn't even know about Dexter's past, it's crazy how he also decided to leave Harrison in a pool of blood next to his mother

I'm with you on that.

It's cool that Arthur picked the sister death in his cycle for Rita too. Mirrors how his sister died and it wasn't directly his fault.
