Dexter

I personally want the skip to only be a matter of days or weeks like season 1 to 2. Otherwise I'd feel cheated out of seeing Dexter's grieving process.

Same here. I am interested in seeing how Dexter will grieve by himself and in front of people.

Damn, just when Dexter was beginning to think that he could change that he could be a better person, Rita's death brings him right back to square one. This show is almost as depressing as Six Feet Under, Michael C Hall's other classic show.

I don't see how he'll be able to raise those kids on his own.

Deb will need to be there, alot, I guess.

And he'll need to spen a small fortune on babysitters. He'll probably need to quit killing people for a little while, too. Probably.

Grandparents will take care of Aster and Kody, and Dexter will take care of Harrison

I imagine he makes quite a lot of money as a forensic scientist. I was thinking about that earlier this season, when he was paying for (probably the majority of) a house, an SUV, the costs of raising 3 kids (including a teenager), and a secret apartment simultaneously. Dexter's gotta be doing pretty well for himself, so I imagine he'd be fine paying whatever he needs to pay even without Rita's contribution.

Yep, the fact that he's pretty much only paying for essentials means he must have bank.

I've often wondered if he became a forensic guy simply so he can know how to clean up his own crime scenes...

That's what I'm thinking, that the grandparents were introduced to set up them taking custody of the two kids. Dexter might come to the conclusion that it's best for the kids too, since he might consider himself "poison" or something. He's got parental rights with Harry, but I don't know what he could do about Astor and Kody.

I don't think Trinity could have told Rita much, if anything, either. For one, he didn't know about Dexter's dark passenger. For all he knew, he probably still thought Dexter was just shaking him down for money alone. And, I would imagine that Trinity was caught up in his whole ritualistic zen stage when getting naked and in the tub with her. The times we've seen him in his rituals, he was really into them and not exactly making too much sense.

Dex's world is pretty much shattered right now, everything he learned and was evolving into got snuffed. I don't wanna see the show go down the path of him trying to be normal. Ugh, lol. Hopefully this puts him back on his game.

It's also a good position coz he has full access to the database and flies under the radar. Forensics are never fully appreciated. :o

Me too. I'm most curious to see how Dexter handles a loss as big as this.

Does he get sloppy? Does it change the code? Does he listen to his dark passenger more? Does he kill Quinn (lol I'm hopeful).

If Dex adopted Astor and Kody after they got married, then he'd have parental rights over them as well.

But even so, I can see a storyline being the grandparents babysitting a lot, and noticing Dexter's always gone. They start to worry about their well-being and want the kids to move in with them. Dex fights them for a while, but realizes it would be best for everyone.

I think it was in season 2 when Doakes questioned him about that. Dexter went to med school and did really well. He could have become a doctor and mint money but instead he decided to join the Miami Police Department. Since it is a government job, he probably doesn't get paid as well as he could be but I'm sure he saved a ton of money when he was single. Other than killing, he doesn't many hobbies that he would be spending money on...

me too. Quinn is like a cheap knock off of Doakes. I wonder if his name will ever be cleared. Probably when Dexter is found out.

I dont think Dexter will be found out by the time the show ends. A few people might find out but i dont think the show will end with Dexter in jail. Besides who wants to see that happen? I thought so. lol

Anybody think during the kill scene with Trin the whole talk about them not being able to control their demons could mean that next season could be based off the 3rd book?? God I hope not. I dont wanna see any cults or anything supernatural in this show. I did think it was a nice lil shout out to the books though even though I havent read them. Ive heard theyre not really that good anyways

I've looked at some quick plot summaries of the first couple of books, and differences between them and the show.

I think I prefer the show.

I miss Doakes :(

"You owe me a new Michelin mutha ****a." No one said '****a,' like Doakes. They need to cast him as John Stewart in Green Lantern, damn it! :cmad:

And not as sharp upstairs as Doakes was. Quinn just comes across as a little dumb to me. :hehe:

Don't under-estimate Quinn. I think he is going to be the catalyst that leads to Deb learning Dexter's secret next year. One can assume Dex will be even more shut off than normal as a result of Rita's death. That makes the perfect character arc for someone to learn his secret and accept him. Allow him to open up. Deb of the books knows. Its time TV Deb catches up. How does Quinn play in? My theory, Deb convinced Quinn to trust her enough to steal reporter's tooth brush. I think as Quinn digs deeper into Dexter, he's going to convince Deb to return the favor and trust him which will lead to Deb learning the truth.

I actually think its time to bring in the Dr. Danko character of book 2. While Trinity was a great character, he was never one Dexter really feared. Dexter hasn't had trouble with any of his adversaries. Its time to give him that. It fits from a production stand point as obviously you don't want your season baddie paling in comparrison to Trinity and it fits from a story telling perspective. As Dexter begins to doubt himself, he has a foe who really shows him what it is to be a monster.

How did Deb take it in the books? What was her reaction to the whole thing?

One of my biggest gripes about Jeff Lindsay as a writer is that the man has no idea how to develop any character but Dexter, and even then, Dexter of the books isn't really developed as he has little to no emotion or depth in the books. He is just the monster he claims to be. Any how, Deb is no exception to Jeff Lindsay's lack of development. She finds out in the first book and Dexter simply says "I'll have to talk to her about that." In the second book, the only reference to it is, "She's dealing with it in her own way," or something along those lines. Its just not addressed.

Oh wow, it's really that vague on the whole issue?

One awesome part of this show is the potential "holy ****" moment each character will react to when/if they find out about Dexter's little secret.

well, in the books, deb uses dexters monster as a weapon for catching bad guys. just like she uses his hunches in the series....but like Matt said, its really not that big of a deal in the books...kinda a wasted storyline... the books could be made hundreds of pages longer than they are. Which, each one, is relatively short.

Yeah, no way the TV show can get away with just skipping it over. If they do, they will certainly get hell.
