Dexter

Every movie Benz does, she is pretty damn awful in, but her TV work is solid. She makes a good TV actress.

Any time Rita was allegedly being annoying, I always thought she was just being justifiably concerned. Dexter WAS keeping secrets from her throughout their entire relationship. Yeah, the fact that he's a serial killer (albeit one who vows to only kill other killers) is something he should do yhis best to keep under wraps, her reactions to him being secretive about his life was totally understandable. The whole thing with Paul that led her to believe that he had a drug problem, they whole thing with the car accident at the beginning of this season, the fact that Dexter did in fact sleep with another woman while they were dating! The fact that she was willing to forgive him should be applauded. Few woman would believe that their men would never do something like that again. They'd toss him to the curb in most cases.

She should be applauded for taking him back after cheating on her? Um, what bizarro world do you live in?

I have to agree. Most of the Rita hate was unjustified. She acted like any normal gf/wife would act under those circumstances.

My only point of contention is the Dexter cheating part. Dex didn’t consummate his relationship with Lila until Rita broke up with him. I do not consider that cheating. At worst Dex may have 'emotionally' cheated on Rita by sharing intimate details about his life with Lila but even that is debatable.

I watched all of the Early Cuts shorts so far last night. I hate the motion comic format (since that's what it is, even though I think they're falsely advertised as animated shorts), but overall they're good. Hall's voiceovers help them a lot. Pretty cool how they have each victim's story tie into some significant part of Dexter's ritual. I'm looking forward to the rest of the current story.

My guess for next season is that we will see a Dexter who is trying to suppress his dark passenger because he's afraid that he will destroy the lives of everyone around him if he doesn't.

Biggest question is whether or not he will try and raise all of the kids. It wouldn't surprise me if at the start of the season he still has them all and is using them as inspiration for his fight against the DP. As the season goes on Dexter will of course lose the fight and give into his DP and as that happens he will remove himself from the children's life somehow.

As for Harrison, I think he's to young to be scarred by the event like Dexter was when his mother was killed. Harrison isn't even 1 years old yet and therefore much, much, to young to remember anything about this even subconsciously. Wasn't Dexter around 3-5 years old when it happened to him?

the whole "they were on a break" excuse was b.s. they were not together for what...a few hours? At least give it 24 hours before you move on...

she's equally as terrible on TV as she is in movies... the only thing that she has in Dexter, as opposed to her other performances is that she shows her boobies on Dexter.

I've enjoyed her acting on both Dexter and Angel. I don't see how she's a terrible actress.

I am really going to miss Julie Benz. I think she was a fine actress and her character got too much criticism.
That's cause the writers made her character such a canker sore on Dex's lifestyle IMO. I like the actress alot but hated her character on this show.

No, I won't miss Rita at all...thanks to Trinity. :word:

Am I on the Friends forum?

Although she was naked, I don't recall actually seeing her full breasts. I think I remember seeing her ass, and a lot of side boob, but no full on frontal. Ah well, they have plenty of other **** on the show anyways.

It's remarks like this that make me really love being a male...

I don't want to see a season of mopey Dexter. I would like to see the show jump ahead a few years to see if Harrison is becoming another Dexter or not.

I don't really have any interest in that. How Dexter deals with his wife being murdered is much more interesting, as well as Deb slowly learning who Dexter is.

Benz is a great actress and I never had any problems with her performances, especially not on Dexter.

All the hate for her suddenly popped up this season when Rita started to become kind of annoying. But that really only lasted a few episodes.

I never heard any complaints about her before this season. But maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

The reason for the hate as far as I can see is because she was keeping Dexter from doing the things that most viewers loved seeing him do, which is of course the stalking and capture of victims.

I don't dispute that her reactions to Dexter's behavior was understandable but it was nonetheless irritating when directed at the guy I was rooting for. Add to this that there was to much of this being actually shown, it would have been better if this part of the storyline had gotten less screen time. You can pretty much tell at what point the writers decided to get rid of Rita, it was the exact point when Rita stopped harping on Dexter and started being nicer to him.

The reason that season 2 is my favorite is because it focused so strongly on Dexter's dark side and had him out smarting everyone else around him. While there was stuff going on between him and Rita there it wasn't keeping from being himself.

Whether some people liked it or not, Rita helped Dexter grow as a human being.

Helped him get in touch with feelings he never knew existed. She was his anchor, his angel...where Harry is his devil.

I'm just hoping to hell that Rita comes back as a counter to the dark passenger...to show that he is conflicted about what he wants to do...

Thats what really needs to happen. Nothing else would make sense really

i dunno...i have a feeling she wont be back. i think dexter will let the dark passenger take over more now. Harry was right. He cant have it all. His passenger has too much control (" I HAVE TO BE THE ONE THAT KILLS HIM!!! ")

I would love to see this. Have Rita act as his conscience while Harry is his impulse/desire. Rita is the superego and Harry is the Id!

It does make perfect sense, but I saw Julie Benz on Talk Soup pseudo-mocking herself, saying she is jobless and broke. I guess that doesn't really mean anything per se, as the show literally just ended and they can always ask her back for this option, but it kinda brought the idea down for me.

IMO there still needs to be that conflict in Dexter, it's going to seem a little silly and wasted if he withdrawls back to the "caveman" version of himself. I'm just hopeful that it's "Rita" that represents the good in him.

How cool would it be to see Rita/Harry semi arguing with each other. Plus it shows that Dexter truely loved Rita...as much as he knew how.
