f**k this party! Here's a wall o'text for anyone who cares enough.
What I hated about it was how lame the writing was, at least compared to the other seasons. Julia Stiles was impressive but I mean,
I don't tune in to watch Dexter grow into a more loving, caring person. They have this great premise, a serial killer who kills criminals, and what has it turned into? A show that's worthy of being aired on the CW.
"I'll carry your darkness for you..."
The performances were amazing, especially from Michael C. Hall, and that just pisses me off even more. I've been waiting since the end of season 1 to see Dexter hunt down a serial killer on the level of (or heck, even sicker than) his brother, and guess what? It's been 4 years and no dice. We get these kills that feel like they were thrown in just because it's Dexter, and it hurts.
Who have been the main antagonists after season 1?
Lila: "Someone who understands me! whOA, wait, she's a nutjob!"
Miguel: "Cool, I get to be a mentor! WhOA, this dude is out of his mind!"
Trinity: "Cool, I can be a protege?! wHOa, this dude is more messed up than I am!"

I understand a show needs character growth to be watchable, but it's just
so wrong when the growth consumes a whole season to the point where it dilutes its spirit. Every season I watch, hoping, that in that hour I will see something that will spark how I felt when I watched the first 2 seasons... and every episode I'm disappointed. Instead I get to see Dex running around trying to save the people close to him, and y'know, occasionally avoid getting caught.
yay.
I'm never surprised anymore, and this is coming from a dude who loves and still watches House after 7 seasons.
But hey, I ain't trying to say anyone is wrong for liking this season. I'm just ranting about why I frikin hate what's being done with this series.
p.s.
And one thing that
really bothers me. Early on they followed a trail of blood to Dan the Dentist. Seriously, case closed after they find the staged murder/suicide? lmao it was such a sloppily strung together thing, ugh, such a horrible oversight. I guess Masuka's "demonstration" made them forget about how they got there.
There were a few good moments though, like Dex taking on the abusive father and his spontaneous kill in the premiere but s**t, they're few and far between and it's just not doing much for me.
