Well...it is and it isnt. I mean at the end of the day, they're actors sure, but they're also human beings. When your being intimate with someone onscreen, yeah your "pretending" to be intimate with them but theres still a significant level of realness to it. When two people kiss or make out on screen, theyre not pretending to kiss or make out...theyre really doing it. You cant fake that. So with that in mind, i dont really blame actors and actresses who fall for each other onset because it must be extremely difficult to fake intimacy with someone and not have it spill over into real life.

yeah, but I mean, it's supposed to be acting. :woot:

is Lumen and Trinity in the books? How many books are there??? Does each season represent a book?

Nope. the only one really based on a book was the first season, then it did its own thing.

You should reread book one. Deb does learn Dexter's secret. She was awake during his confrontation with Brian. And it's mentioned in Dexter's internal monolog during Laguarta's funeral.

So i reread it(book 1, i mean) and... I'm not sure if we can say Deb knows Dexter's secret. It's clear she witnessed Dex's darkness in him, but i'm not sure if you can say she know's about Dexter's... Bloody Hobby.
Deb's knows there's something dark in Dexter but i won't say she knows his secret hobby. I'll need to reread book 2 to figure it out, but i don't know when i'll be able to do it, because... I bought book 1, but i read book 2 from a local library and...well the books not really worth purchasing them, so it depends on lawning them from the library.

I love the books and I think they are worth purchasing.

Debs does know about his past.

Also you have to respect the books whether you like them or not because without them we wouldn't have this amazing show. Plus I wouldn't mind most of the things from the books been put into to tv show as the bad guys are pretty brilliant. I especially would love to see Dr. Danco and Alana.

I think Jeff Lindsay is a good idea man, but a terrible author. His writing style just really turns me off. Firstly, no characters are developed outside of Dexter in the books. Second, he doesn't know how to write an ending. Its like, 270 pages in, he realized his deadline was in a few days, so he just threw together an ending. I mean, hell, Deb finding out is addressed by Dexter saying, "I'll have to talk to her about that." And then followed up in book two by "She's dealing with it." Also, he seems to write in circles and a lot of the book consists of Dex just repeating himself over and over in his internal monologue.

Agreed. The man can't write, and stretches repetitive ideas out over multiple books instead of doing anything new with them. Given his writing ability and what happens in the books, he'd be much better suited for writing Dexter short stories than entire novels.

About his past...Yes, but i'm not sure if she's aware of his hobby for killing criminals.

And i respect the books, but Dexter is one of the rare cases of better TV adoption then the books it based on, IMO.

so with Deb finding out in Book 1, how is she in the rest of the books? How many books are there.......

I've been trying to find them online, and i can't find them

5 books overall.
Debs is very bitter about it. She doesn't support it but she uses it to her advantage.

I'd say most of it stems from her trying to being a good cop.

It's not at all as bad as i'm making it out to be, it's just hard to describe it accurately.

I hear the books really jump the shark, especially the later ones. And supposedly Dexter is much much less likeable than in the tv show.

Iirc I've read that the third book introduces supernatural elements to Dexter's dark passenger.

Yeah, that's true. It's really interesting but something that should be left out of the show. It is a nice way of explaining it though.

I don't believe that the character is less likeable purely because I cheat and when I visualise the story I picture Michael C. Hall etc..

It's definitely the villains that are the main highlights, say what you want but I think Jeff Lindsay knows how to keep you guessing.
The last books focus is on Cannibalism, I think it would work so well as a season, it kinda has the perfect pacing.

Yeah a cannibal would be a great villain for the next season.

I am extremely intrugued by the Dr. Danko character I have heard about from the books. I think the bad guy from Manhunter would be great for him.

I always think of Danko from heros when I read his name in here.

Hadda share this on here. One of my friends posted it on my wall on facebook. Freakin EPIC!!!

Fantastic ^

Ok, I've just finished season 5. I heard a lot of hate so I had low expectations and it was better than I hoped it would be. I mean the whole season was pointless but it's Dexter, you just enjoy it.

I can never remember Dexter's actor name, but as usual, he did a fantastic job and I can definitely see what they wanted to do with the series. Proving that Dexter can develop feelings and he isn't so very different from all of us (which later tries to show us that in fact he is different, but it doesn't really convince us). Liddy was excellent (the actor I mean) but his whole plot was absolutely pointless and ridiculous and somehow annoying. What I've learned about him: he can break into Dex's house and Dexter, out of all people, doesn't notice that someone was messing around in his flat. He has an amazing camera with a 10000x zoom and etc. etc.

A lot of plot holes in this season but overall I enjoyed it.

Well, I think they hinted at Liddy being alot better, and alot more cunning, than his attitude let on. He was way more formidable than I thought. So, I guess one could make the case that Liddy was just good at recon work and knew how to lay bugs.

Robocop and all.

I liked this past season. I mean...it's still better than most of the other stuff on TV. Michael C. Hall is awesome.

Season 5 seemed like an epilogue of sorts. Like, the short story between major events of how Dexter was able to move on without being heartless, yet still being the loner.

My biggest letdown was Jordan. He seemed so full of potential...

I think Firm18 nailed it. It was a pointless season. Nothing is different as a result of the events that transpired. It's as if nothing happened at all.

Might not be different for you but Im positive it is for Dexter. Lmao wtf
