So is Lumen gonna be, like, Dexter's sidekick now? I have to say, I'm kind of interested in seeing what she meant about others being involved in Boyd's thing...

Oh yeah, that should've rung a bell. No, Retro, I didn't see the preview. I'm gonna see if it's on YouTube or something...

When he was setting up Boyd's kill room, it occurred to me that Dexter must be pretty handy with a printer. I mean, he had big blown-up images mounted nicely on foam board of the dead women in Boyd's barrels--the kind of thing I think most of us would go to a copy place like Kinko's for, only Dexter obviously can't do that. That was the main thing I noticed in that scene.Well, Dexter is a guy that talks to his dead father. The very father that taught him a code to make sure that he murders bad people only. He lives a life of lies and deceit during the day and stalks his prey, needles them, spends hours preparing a kill room with plastics, printing out photos of people they have affected or murdered and then allows them to wake up at night.
He says a few things to his victim, sometimes he may even come to a small realisation that he can apply to his own life and as a thank you he stabs them right in the chest. Spends another few hours chopping them up, wrapping them in plastic bags, going out on his fishing boat and dumping the body parts.
Yep, our boy Dexter is seriously ****ed up.
But then...what does that make us for cheering him on and rooting for him each episode?
Love this show![]()
Quinn is Doakes-lite. But yeah, that same pattern is happening again. The more I go over the season so far. I am disturbed at how dangerously close to season 2 this season is treading.
Quinn. Although smarter has many of the same scenes that Doakes had. The whole sneaking up on Dexter when he was using the computer thing. Getting suspended, etc..

Dexter being found out every season by someone can also have the potential of getting stale too. It goes both ways. That's the risk you run with shows like this. What makes Dexter work as a series is that the writing is very character-driven.It's not really surprising that they're mining that plot point so often. They did it with Trinity last season as well. But how many of us were sitting there thinking, "Man, Doakes already figured out Dexter's a killer in season 2," when Trinity strolled into the precinct office and said, "Hello, Dexter Morgan"? Not a one of us, I'd bet. People figuring out the truth about Dexter is kind of a staple of the show. We're now in the fifth season of the show; there wouldn't be much drama if Dex did his killing perfectly and no one ever suspected anything about him.
True, but I don't think we're at that point yet. I'm personally pretty interested in seeing what they do with the Quinn storyline. He's a very different character from Doakes, after all, and I suspect he won't react in quite the same way. We can already see that to some extent with his refusal to allow anyone else to show Jonah the picture of Dex. Doakes had no problem making his suspicions of Dexter public, and if he had as solid a lead as Quinn has now, I bet he'd have happily given the FBI agent the picture of Dex to confirm his suspicions.Dexter being found out every season by someone can also have the potential of getting stale too. The writers would have to get very creative in future seasons to keep things spicy.
I think that Quinn will get another chance to interrogate Trinity's son but the kid's going to lie that Kyle and Dex are one and the same for the simple fact that Dexter did his family a favor for removing the cancer that was his dad from their lives...True, but I don't think we're at that point yet. Quinn's persistence will either get him transferred or fired from the force. Killing him off would be too much like Doakes.
Just speculation on my part.

I'm still nursing the pet theory that Quinn may learn the truth about Dexter but be okay with it when he learns the specifics. Right now, he's pursuing Dex so doggedly because he thinks Dexter killed Rita. Once he learns that Trinity did it and Dexter was only trying to get closer to Trinity to kill him, I think Quinn's morally questionable side might permit him to look the other way and keep Dexter's secret.I think that Quinn will get another chance to interrogate Trinity's son but the kid's going to lie that Kyle and Dex are one and the same for the simple fact that Dexter did his family a favor for removing the cancer that was his dad from their lives...

Good points, Corp but Miguel had a seducing nature to himself that Quinn just doesn't possess.I'm still nursing the pet theory that Quinn may learn the truth about Dexter but be okay with it when he learns the specifics. Granted, that's basically Miguel all over again rather than Doakes, but it could be different enough if Quinn didn't go bats*** insane after learning the truth and actually became something of an ally to Dexter.
