Is anyone buying Season 5? I'm still not sure. It was good but not great and parts of it I actually flat out didn't like. I'm kind of stuck on whether or not I want to wait to see if Season 6 equals the first four seasons or if it's another S5. If S6 isn't that great, S4 may just be the last season of Dexter that I own.

Still, S5 might be better on a rewatch now that my expectations have been tamed, but I still don't know.
 
I am I thought season 5 was great but I can see why others didn't.

Season 5 is better to wait for a decent sale price, it was good but wasn't great
 
I haven't bought Dexter DVDs since season 2. Seasons 1 and 2 were the best anyway...IMO.
 
I can't buy them. When I'm addicted to a show, I have to only do torrents.

It sucks getting up every 4-5 episodes and carrying around dvd boxsets is pretty sucky for vacation and school.

Aw, I liked season 5 better than 4 though I enjoyed them both. Heck, I've enjoyed the whole run of this show, period. It's one of the best ones out there.

Heard a rumor this wasn't going to start back up until October. Is that true? :(
 
yea october 2... i think they did it that way so it opens up with that new Showtime series...forgot what it was called
 
I wouldn't know, lol. I thik Dexter is the only Showtime show I watch. :)
 
Season 5 was weak in comparison to the rest of the series, especially following S4. My biggest problem was that I just never bought into Julia Stiles or the way her character developed.

Agreed. Lumen as Dexter's apprentice was a retread of Season 3 with Prado. I also disliked having her, or anyone, has a love interest for Dexter since Rita just died. The cinematography and writing was also weaker than previous seasons. Overall, S5 was good but not great.

The first four seasons were all equally awesome. I think S4 might be where Dexter ends for me unless Season 6 blows my mind. Then I'll have to buy S5 because it'd just be weird to have S1-4 and then S6.
 
Yeah I wasn't too thrilled with Lumen as a love interest so soon after Rita's death. Dexter should have retired his penis for at least season 5.
 
I have to disagree, I thought Season 5 was very strong, mainly because it was probably the most gritty and realistic of them. As disturbing as it seems, the rape-murders were portrayed in such a way that you could actually see them happening in real life, rather than the Trinity Killer who was more like a Hannibal/Joker-type supervillain.

Even Lumen as a love interest, of sorts, I think was well executed. It was a slow burn, and evolved out of a combination of desperation, co-dependence and maybe 5% intimacy, which is an interesting statement on modern relationships to begin with.

That's how I feel too. I put season 5 above season 3, and most of season 2.
 
I thought season five was alright but they could have done something different with Lumen. She was wrong as a love interest, at least in this season but she could have worked well with the revenge angle. They did sort of do the protege thing before but this was very different.

As to the rape and murder crew I think it they did well with that. They were ruthless and manipulative but they also had their weaknesses and it's always easy to say this is what they should have done in hindsight but I didn't care for the self-help guru angle either.

I agree with you. I liked season 5 better than 4. :)
 
Despite what the writers/producers wanted to do for S5 I just never got into it because of Julia Stiles. She never sold me on any of the emotions she was trying to show so everything was just kind of 'meh' to me.
 
Yea I'm with Pink Ranger on this. The entire story arc with Lumen and eventually Jordan Chase was really well executed. Just the simple notion that Dexter saved one of his target's victims is just a great idea for a story. I didn't like some of the stuff with Lumen at first like with her going under the bridge after a wrong guy, that could've been cut out. Overall though season 5 was really good, I just wish we had gotten more Johnny Lee Miller
 
Anything is better on Dexter than that **** Lila. God was she annoying of a character. So happy when she got killed, Dex should have never fell for her. WPest part of the whole series...

Seriously. That actress showed up in Sparticus and I didn't find her any less annoying there, lol.
